Thing is, most people are not even thinking about any of that when they speak against communism or the horrors of political regimes in general - in this day and age, quietly disagreeing and quietly disapproving is almost frowned upon; if you don't speak against it, then people just assume you support it.
It has gone from "feel my pain", to "feel the pain of my ancestors before me", ultimately culminating in what now is "feel the pain of the ancestors of others whom I thoroughly read about on wikipedia". Historical accuracy and reminders of times past are only allowed if it were high times, not if they were (generally) low.
Everyone wants to speak out for those who suffered (and still do) unspeakable horrors, the standard "1 like = 1 prayer" mentality even though there is absolutely no need to broadcast how they feel about a particular event in time. There seems to be no discernible line drawn by some between saying something the novelties here are mass murder themed and advocating human rights when/where it actually matters. There's a time for everything, this was definitely not it.
Buying what you can afford is a smart move.
Save up and you'll be able to get a nicer board in the future. When you go to build one you'll need cash for a soldering iron and a few bucks for solder as well.
GMK is cherry profile. Filco is OEM profile.
SP's there most common profiles are DSA, DCS and SA, from low profile to high profile. Cherry profile is similar to DCS at height.
ABS with standard cherry profiles? DSA I can understand, but I don't understand how this can be so expensive. I can't justify myself buying this. Someone sell me on this.
WanzerRX-79If you've never owned a GMK set you wouldn't understand. They're kind of the Maybach of key caps. People get hung up on ABS vs PBT as though ABS is some kind of "bottom tier" in the key cap world, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. Material thickness, mold shape, and surface finish are far more significant to the typing experience than the actual polymer composition. PBT has drawbacks too. But I'm not here to sell you anything. Do whatever you want.
Spherical profiles are cute to look at, but are poor to type on. And these from SA are usualy thinner, especially that ridiculous DCS. Guess I will stay away from SA once getting Carbon.
Ridiculous to be not offering individual spacebars instead of requirnig to buy all... and again, where else is this set available? Can we PLEASE cut it with the bullshit RRPs? Especially when you have a good product like this, insulting the intelligence of your buyers achieves nothing positive.
You are welcome to join next time the interest check i am doing before the drop. In such interest check i do gather feedback from Community in order to provide proper kits which suits the majority. I do it most of the time in a democratic way. For example i do polls. Anyway the colors for Spacebar kit was requested by the majority. All kits are done with great feedback of Community and the given production limitations.
T0mb3ryI didn't even hear about this until just a week or two before it went live. But yeah, apparently I'll need to pay more attention to the forums. Sorry to voice my dissatisfaction now.
I'm really in this for doubleshot Dvorak in Cherry profile. It'd be better that I go for 2×Base and 2×Dvorak/Colemak than to use a good portion of those additional dollars to get an otaku kit.
Jeez, I love you guys, but bringing Yuri as a DCS set , in darn ABS and that typical off-center letters. Thats a joke, right? Please tell me this is a joke. I was waiting for so long. :(
DukeDimwitProud to win an argument so easily, but who would rather be a successful FELCHER instead?
Wouldn't that in itself be an all losing premise to only be a felcher instead of a troll?
Is there any comprehensive list of the upcoming list of GMK sets? I think I'm ready to take the dip and get my first GMK but want to be sure I'm dropping the money on what I want. I like this but might like something else better. Thanks for any info.
@kunalkumarSo with these extra people from k-type getting in on yuri are we going to hit 1000 base kits? It's already cheaper to buy 1000 kits than 935 so MD should just order the 1000, give everyone the $10 price difference back and sell the extra kits as stock or in yanbo's closet.
Nah, I agree with maximm. MD has no obligation to pass the discount on. Our price is based on the number of preorders. If MD now chooses to order 10,000 keysets and get them for $80 each and keep 9,000 of them for later resale, do you also think they have an obligation to pass that on to us? I don't, since it is their investment and they who are risking something. Sometimes that risk is very low, but that's just business.
I agree, though, it would be a nice move if they did pass the discount on when it is so close to the threshold. It would probably earn them more through goodwill in the long run. Lying about the drop numbers would leak sooner or later, and would undermine their whole operation if it ever became known to their customers.
TheManMachineYes I would agree if MD decided to buy 10k kits then they wouldn't need to pass on the discount. In that case they are fronting 90% of the capital and taking the risk. In this case though we (buyers) are fronting ~95% of the cost. MD wouldn't even have the opportunity to buy extra kits if it weren't for us. Every situation is unique and needs to be evaluated as such.
The 935 # was posted several hours before the GB even ended plus they are still taking orders from certain individuals through today so we actually have no idea how many kits even sold. There could already be 1000 customer orders, if that is the car do you think that we don't deserve the discount?
MD is essentially a group buy website whose primary tagline is getting better prices for its customers via GB. It makes its profit off of every kit it sells. It shouldn't be piggy backing off of our investment and withholding a quantity related discount for itself to provide free inventory for it to sell back to us at a later date.
Edit: in fact I am participating in a GB on geekhack where a vendor is doing exactly what you proposed. He is restocking his store inventory and is opening up the order to others to take advantage of the larger quantity discounts. In that case he can charge whatever he wants because he is being up front about it and has the price listed as fixed regardless of the total order size. MD doesn't operate that way, they promise discounts based on order quantity.
International kits in general are way tooexpensive. This is allready a relatively expensive hobby considering what you get. These prices are a major reason the European mech community is so small. Really disappointed, but not really surprised.
Ulf_AmadeusExactly the reason I switched to ANSI. And as a programmer I will never look back.
But this didn't solve the problems about spending too much money. Uhm... Yeah.
An EU shipping proxy would only eliminate extra fees, eg the 8£ handling fee by the Royal post in the UK. Other countries, eg Germany, don't have fee so there is no benefit having an EU proxy. It would just make it more expensive for massdrop and 17$ shipping wouldn't be much cheaper in Europe.
