I've had my CTF in CF for a few months now and love it. The only thing i'm noticing over time is that the back of the knife where the clip and scales and inner frame all come together has started to wiggle a lot. All parts are wiggling with vertical play now even after tightening the middle and pivot screw. Should I attempt taking the whole thing apart? Is this common? This is my first knife with CF scales so perhaps they tend to loosen faster? I have knives with different handle material that have never become loosened with moderate use.

Anyone experiencing vertical play when the blade is closed? Mine has developed 1-2mm (1/16"). To reproduce, close the knife all the way. Then pull the blade up a bit. Mine does not return to fully closed against the stops. It just stays there. Shake it up and down, and the blade rattles up and down. I have a first production run unit, so my guess is that the stop slots in the liners were machined a little too far at their closed end. A bit of burr at the end of the slots would have masked the problem. Over a few months use, the stop ends of the slots lengthened a tiny bit, allowing the lock bar ball to drop all the way into the blade detent before the stop pin hits the ends of the stop slots. Now the blade can move up and down freely when closed, due to the lock ball having bottomed out early (or the stop pin hitting the ends of the slots late, depending on how you look at it). I have contacted Drop support about this, and they recommended reaching out to the run discussion as a first step to see if anyone has suggestions. I have a hunch the only remedy would be to peen the closed end of the stop slots in the liners to shorten them enough to prevent the lock ball from dropping all the way into the detent. I think this might have an adverse effect on the WE lifetime warranty, though. So ping me if you have any thoughts. I'll let this soak a few days for response, and then get back in touch with support.

Replying to myself - Just concluded an RMA exchange of the wobbly unit for a brand new, apparently perfect CTF. This was a textbook example of a satisfying customer service experience. Shout out to Rachel for working with me to straighten out my user ID confusion, recommending going to the discussion board any guidance (always a good idea to check there first), then arranging a postage paid RMA exchange. I have the new knife, and it's perfect.

That's good to hear, I have only needed their help with a couple of items, maybe only one return ever, and they always responded in a reasonable amount of time and were helpful.

Why does massdrop tell us when a knife is made in USA, Japan, Italy but not when they’re made in China

They say it’s made by WE knives. They’re a very well known and respected Chinese maker. Could have been more transparent I guess.

WE Knife is one of the best production knife companies at the moment, and it's no secret that they are Chinese. There's no reason to cast shade over their choice of manufacturing partner here, or really in any of their knife collaborations. Millit got a little overwhelmed with the Perpetua, but that is only because they or Bradford are the smallest company to do the manufacturing and the Perpetua was in the most exotic steel they have offered, and there were problems with the steel supply that delayed production to the point that it probably royally screwed up Millit's production schedule for more than just the Perpetua.

Hoppe's no. 9 lubricating oil in a precision bottle is my go-to bargain lube, or Tri-Flow if you like a little PTFE seasoning. Have to get a bottle of the TUF Glide to try it out. I've learned that different materials like different lubes. And then there's Nano Oil, if you have money to burn. I'd rather buy another pocket knife. Oh, right. I just did. Hoppe's it is, then.

I'm pretty upset about there being an option for carbon fiber now when the original drop I took part in did not have this available. I would have gladly paid the extra 20 bucks to get this. Not very fair to the people that jumped in on the beginning
