There Are Pandas, and Then There Are Pandas.
And this isn't either of them! The Pandas we're talking about here, are watches, not bears. And what got me thinking about them (again) was a link posted this morning by @cm.rook who pointed a few of us to the very attractive (and not terribly priced) Yema "Rallygraph" Panda which, in it's most traditional arrangement, looks like the one on the left, but can also be had in the version on the right: The model on the left is a true Panda, while the model on the right is called a reverse Panda. The reason for that distinction is clear--Panda bears, only come in the first arrangement. Now at this point, everyone should be thinking about the most well-know Panda, The Rolex Panda, which is actually a Daytona, and among Rolex Daytonas, the most famous of which is the Paul Newman Daytona, which was famous first, because it was Paul's, and second because it sold at auction for $17.8 million (US Dollars). Thanks for coming to another Massdrop Collaboration launch!
People have been making leather goods for thousands of years. It’s one of the oldest industries on earth and as a result, it’s one of the most competitive, and heavily optimized industries. Generally speaking, quality in leather goods scales linearly with cost. This is because all the factors that separate good from bad leather products come down to materials and manufacturing process.
With the Dress Belt project, to achieve our goal of redefining what you can get at the entry price point; we had to find a partner who had substantial scale, a willingness to sacrifice profit to generate more value for the community, and clearly the highest level of quality possible. The British Belt Co was the clear choice. They have access to the right materials, they have the craftsmanship, and they understand the goal of Massdrop Collaborations; making enthusiast level products accessible.
The result is a belt made from French Calfskin, Nubuck, and solid brass, finely stitched, with edges burnished to a deep black luster.
These details came from our Men’s Style community, through their voting activity, through their purchasing activity, and through their discussions.
We’re excited to make this available next week. In the meantime, feel free to post your questions/thoughts/feelings here, and engage with the poll regarding buckle options. We’re launching with one buckle to start, but if there’s enough interest, we can expand to offer a raw brass finish as well (brass + walnut has my vote)
