I should probably have read a disclaimer, FAQ or something but since im hella lazy I didnt and is now wondering what will happen if for example the norde-kit doesnt get a minimum of 100 orders? It will not get shipped? It would be strange since its possibly a dealbreaker for those 75 people that ordered it and we would have 75 people pulling out of base kits also. I know I will.
And I can do that right? Abandon the drop after the time for ordering is up?
LexerFrom what I've read it seems likely that it will be ordered even though MOQ isn't met, but who knows. For what its worth I'm in the same boat as you, currently I've ordered 6 kits (Base, Norde, Novelties, Spacebar, ErgoPlanck, and community) but I will definitely cancel if the Norde kit isn't produced.
LexerPreviously kits with lower quantities have been produced. But if there's no confirmation by the end of the drop I'm in the same boat as you.
still, very optimistic it will get produced, I've seen kits with 40/100 gotten produced.
Kylarthis is my first massdrop so I don't even know if I should bail out now, just before the drop ends (3-4 days or what it is), or after the drop ends? Anyone that can explain for a noob how this works? will the creator of the poll inform us which child kits will be manufactured and after that we can decide if we want to stay or bail?
LexerI dont think you should be worried about the kits not being made. Yuris nordekit sold 40/100 and was being produced. This set is huge, so im confident it will be produced.
There is also 5 nordekit sold in asia proxy, so numbers is 80. With the last few days, it should sell more, possible another 10 or so norde kits, so you should be safe.
rekoilEvery set started at 200. It would not make any sense at all to have every set at 200 but norde-kit 195.
Probably a few nordic people living in APAC who order, and japan layout use the ISO enter.
TomliginyuBut if the norde kit doesnt get produced I have no use of the base kit or any other kits either. So if the Norde kit get cancelled I also want the base kit and space kit I ordered to get cancelled as well. Was that what you wrote will happen? Or did I misinterpret your statement?
LexerIf you buy 4 sets, base/norde/space/novs, and the norde set doesn't get made, you'll be charged for base/space/novs. I was just explaining how MD does keycap drops, and to not worry about getting charged for something that won't be made. If a set not being produced affects your desire to get other sets, then you should potentially cancel at the last minute, but MD has been known to buy extra sets to push MoQ as well as Asian Groupbuyers who submit at the last minute.
TomliginyuIf you consider that the 75 Norde buyers have each bought lets say an average of 4 kits (based on an average of @Lexers 3 kits, and my 6 kits, nowhere near enough data, but whatever), by not producing those 25 kits that are required to meet the MOQ, MD will be causing potentially 225 other kit orders to be cancelled, besides the 75 Norde kits.
The profits from those 300 orders probably make up for the 25 extra Norde kits. Even if they don't from MD's side, they definitely do from GMK's side. This could lead to GMK dropping the price of the extra 25 Norde kits so as to not lose 300 orders from the total bill.
LexerI'd stay in for the end, as worst case where the norde kit isn't made you can get the rest of the set sold to other europeans at a small loss most likely, or you could eventually grow to not care for what the caps state, or become an ANSI user on some boards.
MD might vey well be willing to cancel the rest of your order after it ends if you contact just after it is confirmed that norde isn't to be made. ( don't take my word for it though)
ArchCelHeh. I have thought of going ANSI for a long time now since Nordic ISO is no fun trying to find caps for. But as the stubborn viking I am I refuse to give up... just yey atleast.
The day someone decides to do a 60% DSA set with nordic ISO layout I will probably throw all my kronor (our currency) at that person and go broke. Happy, but broke.
LexerI know that feeling, i ended swapping to ANSI due to the XMIT hall effect board, before that i wouldn't even dare look for caps as i found it too expensive :)
and hello there swede, dane reporting in, who if it weren't for that damn bamboo case and fancy switches would've stuck to the nordic ISO :)
ArchCelOh so close then. Im actually just over the bridge from your country. (:
do you completly skip the nordic/danish keycaps when going ANSI or how do you solve it?
Lexeri skip them, and then i would bind them to ALT+ the respective keys. That way i can acess them when i need it, and i remain on a normal ANSI layout except for that. So yeah i skip the danish/nordic caps.
I used to live right next to sweden at Helsingør/Helsingborg :)
ArchCelThat seems to be a little bit complicated, but I guess you get used to it after a while.
I cant really live without the proper layout, guess im too old to change. I recently changes to 60% and that change is still messing it up for me, but I wont return to full size again though.
Lexeri asked the same question a few days back and from the replies i received i'm confident enough that: a) there's a good chance it gets made anyway with only 25 kits off and b) customer support is likely to refund your order if you wish to retract after closure due to an essential kit not getting made;
there's also some batch orders still to register at the end of the drop which will further bump up the numbers; worst thing for the norde kit would be a drop out rush toward the end; i'm staying in for sure (being in the same boat)
LexerHonestly I'm not even surprised if it hits 100 by the last day. There's always a surge of orders at the end, and a lot of people wait until the last day to order to see if they should even bother in case the kits are far off.
LexerThe |§-key was left out on purpose to keep costs down. I'm not that worried about that though, I rarely use the key anyway, and if I do it's to get the pipe character (|), so I'll probably just put the |\-key on there instead.
FonderPrismYou're still missing the point, there's no acceptable replacement for people not rocking custom firmware/keyboard layouts. You can't put these keycaps on a standard gaming board without something to put in that keys place. Everyone hates the ½ § key, but putting something there with inaccurate legends, unless its a novelty, is just wrong.
rekoilSpeaking of novelties, I would love to buy the novelties set in this drop, but since the nicest one is the enter button and its a ANSI one its totally useless for me, so its kinda sad. But I ageee with @rekoil regarding the button, theres no proper replacement, but since its an R1 cap there should be atleatt a blank one to cover that spot just in case?
KylarPeople have been talking about this one: https://mykeyboard.eu/catalogue/gmk-watster-keycap-4-pack_252/
But I don't know, it's pretty expensive for what is essentially a single novelty key, and it doesn't really fit with the theme of the set. Oh and will it even make the MoQ of 250?
rekoilThe community kit might work? Its R1:s. Although not novelties its atleast kinda "generic" but its a high price to pay to get to use one button :) I think a generic set with some 1x blanks and/or novelties for each row would be a success, not just R4, or? I know I would buy it atleast :)
LexerLike a separate GB? I think that would sell to be honest. I would be all over it. As for the community kit as a replacement for the stupid paragraph key, yeah that's what I've ordered it for personally.
LexerYou mean part of this set? The one that's ending in 3 days? It would have to be extended in that case, but I'm sure such a kit would do really well.
rekoilI was just stating that it would have been cool/nice, not that it should be done, not this time atleast :) Not want to extend that december timeline any further.
mayby create a separate drop later on after a poll to see if its just us wanting it or if theres more of us?
