M&D talks a great game about durability and build quality, but the sad reality is that they're not backing that up and have long since discontinued making ear pads for the MH40. Hell, they didn't even seem particularly contrite about it, just offered some mealy-mouthed garbage about having "been discontinued for a long time".
While I really like my MH40s, the lack of support despite all their posturing about build-quality has left a pretty bad taste in my mouth and I frankly can't recommend any of their products at this point in time. Even at a great price.
NorreysIt also goes on sale for 149.00 on the site, frequently..I own two pair of them. The first was my very first set of "audiophile" headphones, and were 349.00 everywhere, at the time(maybe 2 years ago, now). I bought them from Best Buy, they were the original brown/silver style. Last year I got a set of the gun metal/alcantara MH40's, on sale for 149.00. I have always loved them. Possibly because they were my "first"..Now, I have quite a few more, and haven't had them out in months. I think it's time..haven't heard them, since adding the iFi Zen Can to my Zen Dac. Should be a noticeable difference between around 300mW and 1800mW @32 Ohm.
For what you get, 139$ is an insanely good price point. I'm genuinely surprised M&D let them go for this low, perhaps COVID-19 affects?
Edit: These do not ship internationally?
They have been 199.00 for some time now, and regularly go on sale for 149.00, which is what I paid on the site back in February, when I bought my second set. I did actually pay 349.00 for my first set, about two years ago, now. But they were still new, and only came in 2 color styles. I fell in love with them, right away! Even at ~350. Now, they are a steal, considering the quality, ect.
Not recommended if you have a larger head or ears. (Like.. above average, at all.) Literally returning these to M&D today because they don't work on my head at all.
Edit: I will say they sound pretty nice and relaxed. Wouldn't pay more than this price for them, though.
CliffCriThis seems to be Drops new "buisiness" model. lol Giving people a chance to buy things they must wait months for, rather that suffer the incovienience of paying the exact same price elsewhere, and having them in hand(the original, not some Drop branded "reissue"), the next day. I can only imagine all the people that jump on these deals now, where they literally just sell things for the exact price they normally cost elsewhere. Only, with drop, you get to wait months for your item, and it seems often times the first couple batches have some kind of issues...Sheer GENIUS! I have no idea what the point of Drops existence IS anymore, to be honest. They are just re-selling popular gear, with their logo added, for the same price it can be bought elsewhere. Why would anyone wait months just because something has "Drop" written on it?
incrediblehuqI own the MW60's and use it during my commute. They clamp on pretty well so it does a good job keeping the train noise out. It charges very fast and i use them in wired mode (paired with the Oppo HA-2) when i don't absolutely need BT. Doing that makes the battery last for about a week.
incrediblehuqThey are known for the MH40, their first model introduced two years ago in Apple retail stores among others. The MW60 was introduced at the end of last year.
I had these for a spell and ultimately upgraded to the Oppo PM-3s and gave the MH40s to my sister and her fiancee. While I prefer my PM-3s all around there are times that I really miss the look of the MH40. I have a shaved head and small ears, and yet these just didn't seal quite right on my noggin. Frankly, I felt these sounded about a hundred dollars less than they were priced. Still, the build quality and design is fantastic. They are very fun headphones.
The $100 discount on Master & Dynamic's own website is still in play as of today (May 8th, 2016). In addition, M&D offers free shipping (and even same day shipping, via courier, for those of us in certain NYC zip codes).
This drop isn't quite worth the discount and wait time at the moment.
