priyadiReally? You have 6 fingers on your left hand? I really don't get how supposedly ergonomic keyboards still set their '6' key on the left part of the keyboard, it's just not ergonomic and definitely no something that you should be doing if you are touch-typing.
alex952the 6 is basically right in the middle of the number row. I'd say it's a judgement call as to what side of the keyboard you put it on. It's equally hard to reach from both the left and right hands on a standard keyboard, maybe even a smidge closer to the left.
alex952On modern keyboards, 6 is closer to the left than to the right, ergonomically it is better to use left hand. I always thought the "6 on the right" are from the fact that some typewriters used to have 6 closer to the right. I guess nothing is truly "ergonomic" if it still has the staggers of the 60s.
priyadiKinesis Freestyle (my current board) has it on the left. Feels markedly more difficult to reach the same spot with my right index.
Also, I thought the Freestyle was an ugly keyboard... she's a beaut compared to this :D However, I'm sure the switches are night-and-day difference than the squishy softies on the Freestyle.
Edit: I'm being too hard on my Freestyle, I don't want to give the wrong impressions. Switches are smooth and have a very positive rubber-dome actuation feel, but they are consistent. I mostly don't like the lack of programmability, especially compared to what their Advantage has - there's 8+ keys that are useless to me that I'd love to remap, but can't.
Either way, I'm in line for the Ergodox Infinity, so this Freestyle will be either shelved as a backup or sold.
priyadiYeah, nowadays I only use vertically staggered keyboards (Ergodox or TEK) so it makes more sense to me to type the 6 with the right hand, as it is nicely aligned there.
