Support for Alternative Layouts
This is a summary of how alternative layouts have been supported by kits such as Colevrak and Homing. It is not a discussion of alt layout performance and development, but if that interests you I highly recommend starting with Pascal Getreuer’s A guide to alt keyboard layouts (why, how, which one?). It’s a concise and comprehensive overview with links to some great sites that go deeper. He also has a separate Links about keyboards page. The Keyboard layouts doc he recommends explains layout goals and metrics in detail, summarizing the alt layouts discussed here as well as more than one hundred others. I personally love the keyboard for many of the reasons you said you don't. I'm sorry that you aren't impressed with the board! What sort of features were you looking for? I, or /r/mechanicalkeyboards on reddit can surely point you in the right direction.

Unfortunately, so it says on the box, the keyboard is made in China--though one can't be too sure what this means nowadays (actually made in china? assembled in China?) Country or origin is a valid critique since I believe Max Keyboard products used to be made strictly in USA, Ohio.
Despite this, the Nighthawk is an excellent product that has yet to fail me. Everyday I find myself looking for excuses to use my keyboard just to relish in its superior typing experience.
