Very nice knife
The McCusta knife is a very nice sized knife, very light for length of blade also. The San Mai style blade is really attractive. I have not carried this knife but use it only for display.

I've had this knife for a few months but didnt realize I hadn't reviewed it, so I'm doing it quickly now while I have a moment sitting in my car taking break on a little daylong road-trip; pardon the rather over-exposed pics. This Mcusta is like all other Mcustas I've owned: an outstanding knife with an outstanding blade, both of which are functional and aesthetically beautiful, with impeccable fit 'n finish, super smooth action, and a solid lock-up. However, Mcustas also have some features that most people would not care for. They're not deal-breakers for me, and so I find overall I like using Mcustas, esp this Katana with its tanto, layered VG10 blade (nobody gets the most out of VG10 like Mcusta). The potential negatives features are: a static tip-down pocket clip that because of the pivot screw reducing the clearance, doesn't carry as deeply as it looks like it will; and teflon washers for the blade to ride on, which I find to be immaterial--Mcustas usually have good action, but this Katana has really excellent action, the blade flies out and drops shut. The washers are a great example of the company's strategy of using less than the most premium available materials, and instead focusing on effectively utilizing modern machinery in conjunction with hand-assembly by highly skilled artisans to produce a premium knife at a reasonable price. The drop for this Katana was a ridiculous $80, and its regular retail price is about $125, which is still an excellent deal--you'd have difficulty finding a more finely tuned knife anywhere near that price-point. The final potential negative for some is the VG10 blade steel. It seems to have a mixed reputation, but I have a number of Boker kwaikens with VG10 blades and a couple other Mcustas, and I've had nothing but positive experiences. The steel is easy to sharpen, takes a razor-keen edge, and retains it decently. It probably helps that the knives I use that have VG10 blades are, like the Katana here, very much "gentleman's folder"-type knives, not intended for heavy duty abusive work. But in general, I find VG10 to be just a step down from 154 CM, and as I mentioned earlier, no one handles the steel like Mcusta. They have clearly mastered the heat treatment for it, because their blades retain edges MUCH better than, for example, Boker or Spyderco blades made from VG10; those being are the other two brands whose VG10 performance I'm most familiar with. I will concede to being a bit of a Mcusta fan boy. For the price, I think there is no better brand for "gentleman's folders", and the reason is seen in the company's name. "Mcusta" (pronounced: *em-KUH-stuh*, not *muh-KUH-stuh*, according to a card that came in this knife's box) is a combination of the words "machine" and "custom". This refers to their aforementioned production process of using smachines to fabricate components, then using a human touch for hand-assembling and tuning each knife. The final result is a super well-built, functional knife that is also beautiful to look at, and which costs half the price it seems like it should. They have their quirks like the pocket clips, but it's the rare miss from a company that usually hits big. The Katana specifically is my favorite Mcusta design of the 7-8 I've handled, mainly due to the substantial, sharp, and nicely angled tanto blade; but also due to the handle, which is long enough to get a good grip on, but thin enough to be light and nimble, both in pocket and hand. Definitely a 5-star knife for me.

Beautiful knife; bought it the last time it was on drop. When I saw the listing I almost bought another color because of how nice the knife is. Paint is still a bit delicate and will erode over time, but the blade is fantastic, comes razor sharp and has a wonderful feel.
