Product Description
As much a work of art as a set of functional dice, this polyhedral set is made from blue sandstone with engraved Arabic numerals on each side. The deep blue color of the dice, when paired with the golden numerals, calls to mind a golden ship flying through the galaxy Read More

Very pretty, very fragile. Don't buy them to roll unless you like flushing money down the toilet. They will turn to dust either in an unfortunate roll or an unfortunate shifting of your gaming bag. I unfortunately bought a lot of these glass/composite dice, I wish I had just bought the metal ones, which are durable and will at least function if their finish is damaged. Also, all of these glass/composite dice also have a high rate of uncentered numbers.

looks like another engineered material (blue goldstone in this case, which is Venetian glass flecked with gold colored flakes, NOT a natural sandstone) that’s been ground by hand with brittle corners and irregular shape. A lot like the set I bought. Gamer bait. I am steering clear of MDG. Drop keeps hawking their stuff but they look like they specialize in making dice out of bad ideas that only sound good, and I hate dishonest ad copy. What’s specifically wrong? Dice can’t be hand ground unless it’s perfect work because they need to be uniform and made of a uniform material or the rolls won’t be random. Most materials that make them look ritzy also make them into lousy dice. That includes stone of any sort (natural stone is irregularly structured around inclusions and impurities, and it’s also more likely to chip) or any kind of enameling (which will have irregular thickness due to flow). Even little gemstone pips can imbalance a die. This is why even big time casinos use simple dice and not lux stuff even though all the tables are covered in felt and there’s lots of money sitting on them. I mean I get it. Dice made from expensive stuff like gemstones sounds really cool and is an idea that occurs to a lotta folks. It did to me. And when I saw the MDG dice on Drop, even though I knew there might be an issue with them from reading reviews, I bought a set. So, I get it. The reality just ends up being less cool. Handmade dice won’t roll true and glitzy dice will crack and chip. Resin is just better even though it has no prestige as a material. Best of luck if you want to try them anyway. Mine looked nice in the light, they just weren’t good dice. This guy will wait for something molded, and practical, less gamer bait and more gamer gear.

"My God, it's full of stars!" Arrived today. They are heavier than I was expecting them to be. The numbers are really crisp. They look really stunning in person.

Make sure to have a nice soft box to roll them in. They may bounce off surfaces and chip or crack. Beautiful and fragile

This set is beautiful in person, with a lovely weight to it. Unfortunately, mine arrived with the d12 already slightly sheared, and the d20 was slightly malformed (it seems to be leaning towards one side). I really love this set, but I was a little disappointed with the quality control. Not sure if this is on Massdrop's side, or MDG's.

Massdrop is the only place I've ever seen goldstone referred to as "sandstone", sandstone looks nothing like this. Blue goldstone is my favorite however and this set of dice looks beautiful!

Goldstone is a man made glass, there is such a thing as blue sandstone.

I absolutely love these dice, but do be careful with them. I keep them in the included bag and make sure that they are packed in such a way that theres little to no wiggle room, and always make sure to carefully remove them and put them back, but at one point the d8 came out with one of the corners sheared right off. It was able to be fixed with just a dab of superglue, but I haven't used them since it happened because I don't know how well it is going to hold up, and they are now just for display.

FYI, when I spoke to the MDG folks at GenCon, they told me that if a stone die breaks under reasonably gentle use and storage, they'd replace the die. That's the only reason I took the plunge and got these and the Opalite set.

Is it safe to assume that these dice are 16mm?

I don't work for MDG, but comparing these to my other standard (16mm) size dice, they appear to be the same size. Hope this helps!

Just so people are aware, these dice are NOT made out of REAL sandstone, no natural sandstone looks like this. The material of these dice is made in a lab and is actually a type of glass filled with glittering powder. I believe the professional term is goldstone. This shouldn't take away from the look of these dice, they are one of the nicer ones I've seen on Massdrop, but it is made from man made material, NOT natural stone.

The material is nicknamed blue sandstone, so it's not lying about anything. But it is leaving out what it actually is...

Just because they say it doesn't make it true, and besides, @Ejtastic is right when he says it is nicknamed blue sandstone. Blue sandstone does not mean sandstone that is blue. It would look completely different.

I was skeptical, but these dice are beautiful and a joy to roll. The engraving and paint is incredibly crisp and clear. (One number on my d12 is slightly offset, but only slightly, and it's otherwise perfect.) I was limiting myself to the metal dice -- I have so many sets -- but I'm glad I got this set. It's now my true "trophy dice" set.
