These are made in China, but I've got to admit, they look pretty sweet. There is no fluid in the compass. As usual, MD leaves out tons of details that the MecArmy product page shows here: https://shopmecarmy.com/collections/featured-product/products/cmp2t-2b?variant=11961837387820 There's no mention of what the "crystal" is made from. It's probably polycarbonate. From my experience, carrying a compass like this in your pocket will ruin it over time, especially if it's carried next to ferrous metals. Not only will it get scratched all to hell, but the magnetism will be ruined. I used to carry a Suunto on my EDC carabiner and had to throw it away after just a few years of being next to a flashlight, nail clipper, tweezers, and a carbide striker for a ferro rod. I believe this product would best be used as a zipper pull on a backpack, fanny pack, gear vest, neck chain, etc. I suppose you could also stitch or tie it onto a wrist band of some sort for easy hands-free access.
