Just curious - Where are the nice, bright flashlights for pocket carry that are just FLASHLIGHTS? I have no need of a strobe light function on my flashlight - my days of disco dancing are done! - and find a strobing light very annoying. I have no need of something to microwave my food or to contact the mother ship when I am out and about, I just want something to light up the darkness!

OakIrisThe strobe doesn't cost anything extra to implement, it's just part of the firmware (and you need firmware to control the brightness, unless you want a fully mechanical flashlight that is hellfire-bright all the time and gets just as hot). A lot of people appreciate the strobe function for either self defense purposes or to use as a long distance signal.

WickedVTI wasn't even thinking about cost, actually. How difficult would it be to just include two functions in the firmware instead of 3? Or maybe just one function, for those of us that have no need for a dimmer light, just want a bright LED flashlight? I certainly understand that the strobe function is useful for a lot of folks (to be honest I am not sure how that particular function would help with self-defense but I will take your word for that) but I personally have no use for it. And when the firmware on this type of flashlight fails...or goes "wonky...." I am currently carrying a $4 AA flashlight in my pocket because my much more expensive LED flashlight decided it will do what it wants, not what I want - Sometimes it won't turn on at all at first attempt, then starts strobing with the second attempt, or just starts up strobing as soon as you turn it on, and then just turns off on its own, etc. Very, very annoying. The simple mechanical switch on a crappy cheap AA flashlight does have its appeal!
Sorry - I don't mean to high jack a discussion that is supposed to be about MecArmy SPX flashlight, just venting some frustration about being unable to find the LED flashlight that suits my needs. I was actually hoping that someone would give me a recommendation or two for a non-strobing EDC flashlight, but I have a feeling there is no such thing. I have done a lot of searching.....

OakIrisLook for the BLF flashlight. Google it and you'll have no trouble finding it. There has even been an upgraded version offered on here a few times also but the original is just fine. It's less than $30 if you get it direct from the source (ships from China so it takes about two weeks), as bright as any other flashlight in this class (maybe even brighter, apparently 1600 lumens is possible with some minor modification though I haven't been bothered to try). It's the same size as this light and uses an 18650 battery just the same, just a little less flashy looking. AND, you can program how you want the modes to cycle so that strobe is not there by default.
I have three of them and they are my favorite flashlight. Well, aside from my Nitecore TM16. But that's a little too big for EDC.

OakIrisWow... you are obviously not a flashlight collector - or involved in anything tactical, for that matter. First of all, strobe is a function that's included on EVERY reputable brand of flashlight these days - Nitecore, Fenix, Jetbeam... they ALL offer it, it's a standard feature. Secondly, aside from having a strike bezel, it's the one thing that allows you to use the light tactically, for self-defense, should the need ever arise. I just don't get some people... you seem to want to whine about something JUST for the sake of whining about something. All you have to do is NOT USE the feature if you don't like it. It's not like it drives up the cost of the light, or its something you're forced to use... there's just NO legitimate reason to complain about a feature you can simply not use, when it absolutely has no effect on the price of the light.... geez.

JalucianSorry my plea for a non-strobing flashlight upset you so, Jalucian. "I just don't get some people... you seem to want to whine about something JUST for the sake of whining about something." WOW back at you!
I have been buying and using flashlights for over 50 years, always have several in my house, at least one in my car and, for the last few years, one in my pocket. In all of that time, I never, ever thought to myself, "Gosh, I wish I had a flashlight that could send out a strobing light" because I have yet to be in a situation where I thought it would be useful. Flashlights are indispensable tools for me, but, no, I am not a collector, I don't accumulate them just to have them, I buy them to use them, and, no, I am not involved in the tactical field. I wasn't aware that you had to be a collector and in the tactical field in order to have a opinion about flashlights or participate in a discussion about them. (And I never said anything about cost being the reason I didn't want the strobe function, so I am not sure why that is being brought up.)
Obviously many people want such a function included on their flashlights - I'm just not one of them.

OakIrisSurefire G2X Pro. 15 lumens on low. 320 lumens on high. Nothing complicated and no strobe. Emits a pleasant neutral-warm tint not unlike natural sunlight. Cost is sub-$60, probably closer to $50 and has a lifetime warranty. No-brainer if you ask me. I'll keep mine forever.

OakIris"Upset you so?" Hardly. You give yourself WAY too much credit. I wasn't "upset" at all... I just shook my head. I brought up cost only because it illustrated the fact that there's no downside to having the strobe feature. You don't need it, don't use it. But there's NO reason to bitch about it!

JalucianThey offer it, they offer options without, or options where it's hidden. Tactically I find it irritating to flash a light on and off and not have it be a light when I need it. I have need for tactical lights as do my coworkers and absolutely none of us use nor want strobe to interrupt a light when our lives depend on it. If you read on candlepower.com forums, it's not an uncommon opinion to flashlight collectors.
