Great for carrying fish hooks, tinder, medicine, matches, BBs, and other small objects, the MecArmy Waterproof EDC Storage Case is durable and compact. Store it in your pack, in your glovebox, on your nightstand, or on your desk—it’ll make a great paperweight, too Read More
This case is very waterproof. The o-rings provide a very tight seal that makes it a little tough to open, so perhaps it could've done with some knurling on the sides.
The case is very well made. The weight to it gives you an idea of the material put into it. The seal is very tight to the point where I find it difficult to open it sometimes. But that's one of the selling point isn't it. It is able to keep anything that fits safe from the elements. Most importantly, the case looks nice.
I was a little disappointed when this arrived. I had hoped to use it for a pocket container, but it’s size cancelled that idea. Instead I use it for a tinder box in my hiking day bag and it works awesome. Just a warning to be aware that this isn’t really pocket friendly.
The good: It’s light weight and makes a good seal. The o-ring is pre treated with silicone to aid in water resistance and keep the lid from binding up. It is machined and finished very well. I would hate to beat it up, but this container can certainly take abuse.
The indifferent: Size is the limiting factor. You’ll wish you could fit more in it.
The not so negative: The lid fits tight. Simple as that. Some people seem to struggle with how tight it fits. It would be mildly aggravating if you needed to open and close it like 60 times a day, I get it, just don’t use it in that capacity.
Overall a good product that works as expected.
The smooth surface and tight seal can make this really hard to open. My hands still hurt as I type this review. After multiple failed attempts, I eventually ran it under hot water and used a couple silicone jar openers to get it to budge. That said, build quality seems solid and that o-ring didn't allow any of the water in. Since this is supposed to be for EDC, it's less convenient than what I'd want in my kit(s). It's definitely a nice case, but I think I'd only consider getting more of these if MecArmy added some knurling to the top and bottom. I'd give it a 3.5/5 if I could.
UPDATE (1/1/20): A few days after my original review I got so annoyed with how difficult this was to open that I stopped trying to use it. It sat on my desk collecting dust until this morning when I had the idea to add gaffer tape to the top and bottom to add some grip. This made it WAY easier to open (but more ugly), and it will probably see more use from now on. It still isn't good enough to consider for EDC use, though. I decided to drop my rating because I shouldn't have had to modify this just to make it hurt less to open. :/
Use it for transporting my bluetooth earphones. It is MUCH nicer than my previous container - an Altoids tin. Seal is water tight. Has survived bouncing around in my backpack without dings or dents. It is relatively expensive and over-engineered for my use. Still, I would buy it again.
I give it one star because it is impossible to open without using rubber gloves or jar openers and a risk of having a stroke. So it is not an EDC storage solution. Removing the gasket/O-ring makes the container more usable but probably less water-proof. Otherwise it is a beautiful and well made object.
