The Massdrop community voted, and we listened. After tallying up nearly 1,500 votes in the Megatec Flashlight Poll, we are excited to partner with XENO to bring the community-designed Megatec ES-100 flashlight to life, exclusively on Massdrop Read More
I don't see this drop being successful either.. What is the lure to this light it all seems sort of just average to me..& how is Low-Med-High sequence considered "custom"... Also the led is outdated imo by the XML thats more efficient with a better flood profile. YMMV
Matt108No, 400 buyers were required but that condition was not met, so the drop has been canceled and they are taking the feedback to the manufacturer.
Hi all,
Thanks for taking the time to vote in our polls and to comment on the drop. We are clearly not going to reach the MOQ on this version, but we are taking the community’s feedback and are going back to the vendor with it to see what can be done. We really want people to be excited about the first light we deliver for the community so thank you again everyone for all your input.
So I am as far away from a flashlight connoisseur or expert as possible, so all of the discussion thus far has been somewhat of Chinese to me LOL
Fashlight beam color rendition issues? And here I was more concerned with not killing myself or the wrong person in pitch black darkness LOL But I guess true color reproduction is important as well in some circumstances?
What would be the practical benefits of this over something like a Streamlight Stylist Pro that has been my pocket EDC for last 5 years (and costs $15)
LxJLthrI don't own a Stylus Pro, but from looking at the specs, the practical differences are:
-- Form factor; the SP is a 2xAAA penlight, and this is a 1xAA light. You'll get a bit more runtime for the same brightness/output out of 1xAA, and consume fewer batteries over time. Of course, people generally like penlights because they mimic the size and shape of a pen, and this light doesn't.
-- Modes, or brightness levels; SP has one (~65 lumens), and this light has three. So the low mode will preserve battery life and keep you from dazzling yourself and others in pitch darkness, at the movie theater, etc. The high mode on this light is brighter than the stylus, but not dramatically brighter.
-- Clicky switch type; the SP has a forward-style clicky, which allows for momentary, silent operation, and is appropriate for a single-mode light. This light has a reverse clicky, which lacks momentary, but is arguably better for a multi-mode interface.
-- Build quality; the SP has a great reputation, but it is a budget light and concessions are made to mass-produce it and keep costs down. This light doesn't exist yet, but judging by other Xeno lights, and the price tag, I'd presume that the fit and finish would be superior.
-- Emitter, or LED used; this light uses a Cree XP-G2, which is a very common emitter in smaller flashlights. It generally produces a good, tight beam with high efficiency at low voltage. The LED in you stylus is a lower-tier (budget) emitter. While I can't comment on the beam or tint quality of either light, I'd hope that the Xeno would have a more pleasing beam pattern and tint than the SP.
This is a strange light at this price point and performance, no 14500 support and not enough support for copper either. For this price one could get an Eagletac D25A Ti which can run on a 14500 or AA and pulls this kind of performance out of the Nichia 219 despite lower emitter efficiency, which is a much more desirable option with better tint and CRI, or higher ouput with an XP-L. Plus the Eagletac has a screw on clip instead of one of these loose-your-light clips. I don't see this drop being successful.
