No keyboard is complete without a high-quality cable. New from MelGeek, a go-to accessory brand among mech keys enthusiasts, Geekcable custom aviator USB cables are an excellent choice Read More
So explain to me why this is STILL 59 dollars? How is this a deal? Geekcable on taobao sells it for 37 USD. You can sort of justify melgeek's price after accounting for shipping. But HOW is this a DROP? It's almost the same price on melgeek's website. After combining shipping for a group buy, this should be 45 dollars at most. Stop ripping people off.
The "simple options you have available here"? What is that even supposed to mean? "We aren't in China?" Where do you think DROP is sourcing these from? Haha. You're not getting a discount buying this from DROP. I mean, I suppose if you consider not having to take the time to learn about how Taobao and Superbuy work then maybe you are. In that case, you'll just keep paying more for the same thing in the future anyhow.
Whatever though. It's all up to you. Do you.
Pure Gimmick in IMHO, adding 2 failure points to a 8 foot cable, exponentially increases the chance that one will fail, anyone who has repaired or troubleshot cables knows over 95% of failures are at the connectors. the oversized USB A or C connection on the computer end could limit and or interfere with adjacent ports on systems and or hubs. All for the low price of around 60 dollars, looks nice but better served with better cables at a lower price IMHO.
KSSyuI do declare I have not. Although now I'm intrigued...(several seconds and a Google search later). Yep, Yarbo be suffering from the same affliction 🤔
Do they actually use keyboards in airplanes? Or for that matter, are USB cables even a thing in airplanes? I guess I am just confused as to what you use this for. $59 seems to be a lot for something that is usually under $10.
I can attest to them being used in medical. I design surgical instruments and every surgeon hand piece plugs in with a lemo connector. However we do not coil them.
Im no expert but I assume coiled cables came about from the nostalgia factor that some of us born in the 80s and earlier get when seeing a lot of the custom keycap Colorways and custom keyboards.
my next assumption is one of the original cable makers wanted to stand out and thought hey let’s throw this random detachable connector in here with the coil cause it looks cool and slightly nostalgic as well! Thus the phad spread faster than pogs and now everyone needs one.
(Best part of working for my company is I basically can order lemo connectors on a blanket PO and take them home. Sadly, I have no interest in gaudy cables like this so I’ve yet to take advantage of my access to free lemo connectors).
O.K. I live around the area and since I discovered that the LEMO HQ is close, wondered if possible to purchase directly from them, but I do not think they have retail store for individuals :(
I am one of your customers that purchases real lemo connectors :-)....( probably one of your larger accounts as I work for a 10 billion $ a year company )
"aviator" connector here looks clean, but they are not made by Lemo of Switzerland.
These are real Lemo power cables (analog and digital) to my Nagra DAC player.
Most coiled cables are handmade. You'd have to account for labor. Different types of connectors cost different amounts. Aviators are the cheapest at around a dollar. LEMOs are ~70 dollars. FEMOs (like the ones used here) are maybe 5-10 dollars when purchased in bulk. This also has a custom CNC'd metal USB housing that only Geekcable has. Most custom cables are heatshrinked at the USB housing which looks less clean. So while it adds up, I think 60 dollars is crazy to charge for a group buy when the cables are available in china for 37-40 dollars. So much for a group buy.
In the end you are buying these cables for vanity.
KSSyuRemember you lot, reside within the US of A hence China needs to start increasing costs due to your infamous 'Orange Man', constantly attacking them politically.
In the end, we all have to pay far more for a failed political system, that no longer helps or supports it's own population anymore.
This is the New World now here in the Western Autocracy, screw more money out of everyone for the same products, that were once quite cheap. DROP is simply caught in the middle of all this economic-fighting, which has nothing to do with them.
Normally despise DROP but sometimes even a deer caught in the headlights of an oncoming truck, needs some sympathy here : (
They fixed the problems (concerning myself), hence they are still worth buying from.
Never buy from anyone that ignores you, that's the logic ALL should follow from..... especially during these perilous times.
ElrickSo I'm not the only one they're ignoring??? Waited months for my Alt and it arrived damaged and unusable. Have sent multiple emails and haven't gotten a word back in weeks. This is my first and more than likely my last purchase with this disreputable company...
Because many many keyboards (Especially the flagship drop keebs like the ALT and CNTRL keyboard don't support usb-c to USB-C cables) which I can't say I don't blame them since the cable they come with is a usb 3.0-A to USB-C (2.0). And both ports on those keyboards are only USB 2.0 compatible. And as convenient as some usb-c cables are, the actual usb-c connection has like 5-6 different types...yet all look the same to the eye. It would be a shit show
