$2999 is no deal per se. This headphone can be found at this price all day long. Most dealers would offer a reasonable discount from MSRP upon request.

audible10 percent is on the light side of dealer discounts. And you have to spend it (a credit) at DROP. I can get 20 percent plus off at most of the dealers I do business with. Most will price match too. About the only one I do business with that holds its price tight is ZMF Headphones, and if you wait until the annual November sale you can get that ten percent off of select stock. They are special headphones and worth the premium.
The Drop deal on the Meze's is a yawner.

BobosoWould you mind sharing the names of some dealers who would be open to deals on the Empyrean at 20% off? I asked Moon and the pointed me to their open box at 10%. My local couldn't do better than 5% and I spend there. ha. I'm coming up short so this deal is looking better to me, but I might do the open box if they still have it. Tell us your secrets!

HearstTry audio 46 and headphones.com. Music direct will sometimes deal on higher priced open box as well. Drew at Moon Audio is not a big discounter. I've traded with him a couple of times on B-Stock stuff and a cable or two.
You may not get a discount on the high end Mezes. You have to negotiate and if the deal isn't to your satisfaction, walk away. There will always be another deal. If I'm going pay full pop $3K, I'd buy ZMF Verites.

audibleI'm just smart with expending my funds. I'm not a Drop fanboy either. Lately DROP hasn't pushed out many good deals, and purchasing high end audio gear is truly a luxury choice. I see the Meze deal as a yawner. If you think it's a great deal pony up and buy one. Then to prove you did, open your DROP profile so we can see that your spending matches your posting.
It's a nice headphone, but overpriced even at $2700.

BobosoFunny. I'm in the market for top-shelf after recently selling a pair of first-batch Verites. They are a unique HP for sure, but the only HP I have not actually parted with for years is a HD800S that I just keep coming back to after discovering the power of real EQ in the digital domain.
Audio 46 said maybe a b-stock deal - if it comes up. I assume headphones.com would be much the same. This deal is actually starting to look just fine since the Drop credit is a perfectly viable option for me.

Cpt. Obvious, we all know where to find bargains if we want one, and serious shoppers get it and they understand what the Drop 'discount' is and is not. So, as it would appear, from your interaction with @Hearst, your big 20% discount that you get because, you know...you know the guys and you're a big deal blah blah, is just a boast, and a rather empty one at that. Oh, but really you're actually just too cool for this headphone...I mean for $2700.
So, sure it's not a not a great deal - those are few and far between here and have been for a while - but it is 'a deal' just as good as one is likely to get.

HearstI have HD800S as well. Dekoni Fenestrated Sheepskin pads. I wont sell those either. I parted with my base HD800 last December. Sold it on headfi. Great headphones.
What are you using as an amp for the HD800S?
Another good headphone to audition is the Dan Clark Ether 2. Very light and comfortable. Discounts can be had on those.

BobosoYeah I sold the HD800 a while back too. I'm using a Bottlehead Mainline that I built a few years back. It works well with most headphones, but superbly with the 800S. I even dabbled with the benchmark hpa4 for a year or so, but it had to go. The Mainline is not as powerful or as quiet, but I guess it's got synergy. I'm also in love with a couple of AT's, particularly the ATH-R70X as a great "fun" headphone that's still cheap and smokes the HD650 IMO and a pair of ATH-ADX5000 that I am 'babysitting' for the month. The 5000s are ridiculous. I still hold on to the THX-789, just because, I guess. I am curious about the Dan Clark Ether 2 and it's on the list for high-end planars for sure.

HearstYou see the Ether 2s discounted from time to time. I have four pairs of Dan Clarks: Ether 2, Ether CX Drop, and 2 Aeons. The stuff pairs well with my tubed amps from ampsandsound. I really like their stuff. Hopefully CanJams can resume later this year so you'll be able to listen to some headphones and IEMs in person. Cheers...

I posit that correctly pointing out that you are only here to spray is more 'useful' than anything you have posted. My purchasing profile? What has that to do with anything? except to momentarily take the focus off what a tool you are being. Who looks at what others are buying? You seem very occupied with status signaling. I'll tell you what's NOT on there: keyboards, ink pens and fidget spinners; also no inflatable watercraft were purchased. My guess is that @Hearst was just trolling you to see if you were just talking out of your ass and trying to get you to spray more. Mission accomplished @Hearst. LOL.
