Received one. The grating edge is alright but the handle had a few nicks and looked like it was scratched by coarse sandpaper on both sides. Disappointed.

The professional series are laser welded down the full length of the grating surface, and Microplane emphasise this. Looking at these ones, it doesn't seem to be the case (although it's hard to tell from the photos), and it doesn't say anything about the welding in any marketing materials. So my guess is that they've reverted to a cheaper and faster method of production. If so, it would be a pity to have the "made in the USA" version be poorer quality than the "made in China" version.

I bought 2 of these (wide fine, wide course) in the last drop because my first microplane is 2nd only to my knives for favourtie kitchen tools. But the fine one broke after the third use, the grating plate has simply broken away from the side bar, completely one one side an partially on the other. So disappointed! Especially for a supposed profesional grade tool. I'm back using my old handle less original. I love microplane but just can't recommend these.

SharkieCan you comment on whether these are welded along the full length where the grating blade meets the side frame?

johngbThey are but not well enough. I had a similar experience when grating this week with my coarse grater. Additionally I am disappointed in how flimsy the grating surface is -- I'm back to my box grater for everything but parmesan or zesting.

I am so glad these ship internationally, however, wish had ones with plastic or metal handles, so could dishwasher. I am sure some people would say, not a good idea to dishwasher, because will dull it...would love to hear from others regarding dishwashering.

it-manFor a plastic version that features multiple surfaces with varying blade styles, look at this one. I got this one and am very happy with it (though I still do not sent it through the dishwasher).
