It's funny to read comments like "This is a junk" "Buy an ipad" etc.. if you are not aware of what this device is for, so avoid it. When this device was first appeared, this was the most portable full Windows around, it's perfect for portability, for office softwares, for on the go entertainment, surfing, mailing, simple gaming (it could even run Minecraft for example) etc..
Yes it includes an atom processor but running a full Windows that you can install all softwares that you are using on a normal PC and it's not slow junk or something like that. Of course it's not a video editing, or gaming monster.
It's silent (no fan to make any noise), not getting hot, it can be charged with a USB powerbank, it's lightweight, screen is very very good, it's a perfect device for the target audience which are people who need a full Windows on a tablet size everywhere!
Do I like a Microsoft Surface product? Well, I own a Surface Pro 2...and for a backup, I have another SP2. But, I caution you not all Surface products are great 2-in-1 products. In my case, I have software that uses the SP2's touchscreen as a Wacom digitizer, so I'm stuck with the SP2, but happily. The Surface models (not Pro) are a large step down in power and features. The Surface 3 is really no different than cheaper tablets sold everywhere. Win 10 Pro is good, I guess, but a bit much for the processor. The price is good for a new Microsoft tablet, though. I'm sorry, but I can't recommend this. This might be a decent purchase for the right type of user expectations.
This is a poor, poor purchase for just about anyone. I have owned one of these models and there is nothing worth it here for any price above free IMHO. It's too old, the atom does not hold up and 4GB of ram limits any sort of multitasking. Just buy an ipad.
Yeah, my main worry was it not being able to handle Android studio and like like that'll be an issue. Any recommendations for minimum expectations for they kind of work load + some very light gaming?
Rav91Android studio is way too much for the surface 3. I even have hard time to run Atom on it, but if you only need bash on windows to run some vim stuff... that's fine.
