sin-chI find it useful because it helps keeping the mouse pad clean. I've spilled tea on my mouse pad before and although I didn't damage my mouse/keyboard, the mouse pad absorbed the tea making it hard to scrub out. After awhile it became sticky and gross.
I just recently bought a gun cleaning mat that I use as a mouse pad (which is water/oil/chemical resistant) and this mat will bead off any water and prevent any oils on my hands from absorbing it.

Sugar_FreeI throw my mouse mat (PG gaming Race Extended :/) in with my laundry, washer and dryer, and it's been fine for a year now.

Sugar_FreeNone, though I do wash it with towels and other similarly soft but heavy items with no buttons or zippers. I have only done it about five times, though.

sin-chI think the "data loss" being referred to is in the form of sensor tracking issues on the mouse pad surface. I know that I've had pads in the past that some mice would have occasional trouble tracking on, but I haven't had this issue on this mouse pad though.

sin-chEveryone disagreeing is nuts, I have a steelseries mousemat that will absorb liquid like a camel and it's saved my gear quite a few times theoretically. Everyone talking about keeping them clean just isn't aware that there are mousepads that are WASHABLE, that's where it's really at, not this water resistant crap.

Muzzi87If by "gamed enough" you mean spending 16+ hours a day playing video games, 7 days a week and when a mat/pad "issue" results in flying into either a blind rage or slipping into days long depression, then yes. I have not "gamed enough" to understand.
