Just cut into one of my white keys (not Cyrillic) and the black legend is only on the surface. Has Signature Plastics made all the white keys dyesub by mistake?
Edit: looking at this Imgur link: http://imgur.com/a/QJp68
... there are 2 base kits. His is named MDX-3571-BSKIT and mine is named MDX-3571-BSKITPBT. Note the PBT: I am certain I have received a base kit + Norwegian language kit where all the white keys are dye-sub PBT.
Now the description page says:
Specs
ABS Doubleshot (Cyrilic Kit is Dye Sub PBT)
DSA Profile
So this is not what I ordered! EVERYONE WITH INTERNATIONAL KITS: PLEASE CHECK THE BACKSIDES OF YOUR WHITE KEYS AND SEE IF THEY ARE ALL WHITE OR BLACK AND WHITE!
ebodtSignature Plastics made PBT dye sub base kits for the international users, so the legends of the international kit and base kit would match. Everybody who ordered a specific international kit received a PBT base kit.
The fact is that they didn't have molds for some international kits like they previously thought. So, they did the base set in PBT (higher quality) as a compensation. It would be very expensive to cut new molds for some countries, since very few people ordered the kits. The manufacturer confirmed they had the international molds before production, but turns out they didn't. The international customers received a higher quality base set, made in PBT/dsub, without any extra costs.
Massdrop agents and Signature Plastics are working together in order to fix the space bar issue. Also, for the people who received duped keycaps, everything will be fixed.
Hang on!
MiToWait, what - you knew about this beforehand? I have read the entire thread and don't remember reading anything about it?
And your own description page still says only the Cyrillic kit is PBT. And personally I do NOT consider dyesub PBT to be in any way higher quality than doubleshot ABS. In my opinion this is no longer a matched set, but a thrown-together mishmash.
MiToI'm pretty sure you defended ABS as not being inferior to PBT multiple times in the discussion. I think I would not have ordered this set if I knew I was going to receive dye sub keycaps. What makes me upset is that you did not communicate this beforehand. This was the first and probably last time I ordered key caps from massdrop, no one likes being deceived.
thermoskanneYes. Yes, he did defend ABS as different but not inferior. Assuming you agree that doubleshot is superior to dye-sub, this is a DOWNGRADE by his own admission.
If Massdrop had been operating under my country's law, this would be a clear case for hefty discounts at the very least.
ebodtSignature Plastics offered to make dye-sub PBT alphas only for the very few international users, since they didn't have 2shot molds like they previously stated. These alphas are PBT in order to match the fonting used on your international kit. I didn't want you to have alphas with a different font then your national characters, and since the 434 participants wouldn't be enough to fund 2shot International kits for every single nation offered, the manufacturer funded the production of dyesub PBT alphas - for these very few international users, including you. Logistically speaking, this was the fair option for everyone.
> And your own description page still says the Cyrilic Kit
Though I understand your complaint, this is Massdrop's page, not mine. I'm not responsible if they don't update the drop page with the correct information. I wish I had access to the page but sadly, I'm only the designer.
Regarding quality, I'm saying that PBT is higher quality because of fonting (in order to match the International Kits) and also that they won't feature the shine that some people report, but that's just a "plus" for the apreciators of PBT.
Offering international kits was a request from you guys and given the current technology available for the manufacturer, this is the best I could offer. I understand that PBT is not exactly what you ordered, but Massdrop was aware of this change and apparently didn't inform/updated the description.
EDIT: PBT quality information.
thermoskanne> ABS as not being inferior to PBT
Again this discussion, in my own judgement the keycaps are the same in regards of quality.
What I meant by stating "(higher quality)" in my reply to @ebodt is that the quality of the alpha fonts in PBT would be better, since they would then match their international caps. I wasn't comparing ABS and PBT in regards of quality, I was talking about the quality in regards of overall look because of the fonts. Sorry if it sounded weird at first glance, english is not my main language.
MiToWell, at least it's good to know this is Massdrop's fault and not yours.
Whilst I am very thankful for being able to buy international kits at all, it is completely unacceptable to not inform the customer of the change to materials.
Saying that PBT is superior is nonsensical. Most of your customers received ABS.
ebodtThanks for the support and patience in understanding that sadly, Massdrop agents don't update this page as much as I wanted them to.
> Saying that PBT is superior is nonsensical. Most of your customers received ABS.
I understand this statement, but the thing is that you and the other guy misunderstood what I actually meant.
When I said "higher quality PBT" I was talking about the fact that a base set in PBT has better quality then a ABS set for the international users, because the fonts are going to match. Different fonts would look terrible and therefore, the quality would be inferior.
-> PBT base + PBT international kit = looks good and good quality
-> ABS base + PBT internatinal kit = inferior and bad quality, because of fonts
I made an edit on the other reply for clarification.
MiToRight, then I understand. ABS alphas combined with PBT language pack would have been bad enough to be reason for a full return and refund in my opinion.
ebodtI thought it was the right thing to do. We had 52 international kits sold, for different countries. So there are actually 52 PBT base sets out there, in order fot the international users have a good looking board.
Given the current technology and circumstances I don't think I'll offer international kits again on my sets, only ISO.
MiToI am sorry you feel that way, but it is understandable. I was looking forward to your rebooted Elemento, but without an international pack I couldn't order it.
ebodtIf you look at Carbon for example, everything was sold together. But if I do that, it's gonna be expensive as hell.
If I break everything down (which is probably what I'm gonna do), who knows if we gonna achieve the MOQ.
It's a risk I'm still evaluating...
MiToHow did the Swedish/Finnish, Norwegian and Danish kits add up? I would assume these would be easier to reach MOQ if combined, but you have the actual sales data.
