mmandrewYeah, good luck with that. Which of MD's stuff is significantly cheaper than general retail?
Further, MM3 is ridiculously hyped up right now. No vendor is going drop out on free money by selling 30 bucks below everyone else.
mmandrewThey probably shouldn't do Magic stuff if they want to stick with that angle. Pretty sure there is no way to get WOTC product at cheaper wholesale rates except possibly for GPs? Not even sure about that. I think the only perk that the local huge game store gets is receiving the product a bit early to open for day-of-release single sales.
VerdaugaYou realize that wholesale from Wizards on this product is around $140ish right? (like it has been for previous masters products). Distributor pricing is probably in the low 150s. The vendors are making money, they just want to make MORE, which is pissing a lot of us off.
UksorI was just saying that there's no reason to think that vendors CAN'T get this product for a price where they can sell for $180 and make money. It's just that many of them want to make MORE, which is fine, but in no way fair to the masses of us who just want cheaper staples to use in modern/edh.

" MSRP: $9.99 *Applies to U.S. Only "
Only the 1st Modern Masters release in 2013 was set at $6.99 MSRP and that was impossible to find at MSRP. All Masters set after MM1 (e.g. MM2, EMA, MM3) have a $9.99 MSRP. Of course, something is only worth as much as what people would pay for it MSRP be damned. But saying the drops were "marked up MSRP" was factually incorrect.
mmandrewTo be clear, MSRP stands for "manufacturer's suggested retail price". It has a very specific meaning and as provided above, the MSRP was taken directly from the manufacturer's website (WotC). Whether or not you can buy the product for less than MSRP is irrelevant as that is not what I wanted to point out. You are referring to the "market price" of a product and that can be higher or lower than the MSRP.
To reiterate, MSRP is NOT "what I want to pay for a product".
ArdenDThat's why you buy singles. Them upshifting boxes from 180 by 30 bucks isn't "unfair." That's such a loaded term, especially when the EV of a box was calculated to be ~380 bucks, assuming current prices.
ArdenDYou are correct.. Vendors can get the product at a price where they could sell at $180 and make "some" money. What you may not understand is that each Vendor is allocated so many boxes and that is it. It is not like they can buy as many as they want from a distributor or from Wizards of the Coast. Thus, it makes no sense to buy my small allocation from my distributor at $140 per box to sell at $180. I would be sold out within 24-48 hours of receiving it. I would then have to turn around and pay $200+ on the open market to restock it so that I have it available after the 2nd day. If you own a business you would understand that it makes no logical sense to sell something to someone for less than you are going to have to pay to restock the very same item for...
ArdenDAre you serious? If a store sells something for 10% margin, it's not worth it to carry.
Let me know when MD starts holding FNM or running Modern Drafts.
