So I've been looking for a watch for awhile, and to me this is a very handsome piece. I'm tempted to buy, although I've been reading about quartz vs Mechanical. Mechanical seems to be higher in craftsmanship, though more expensive. This drop price is really all I would want to spend on a watch... Is this a good deal for the uninitiated?

BrakeRewisI've been collecting quartz and mechanical watches for almost 20 years, from under $100 to watches worth thousands of dollars. It will be hard to find a new mechanical watch of decent quality in this price range. The obvious choice is Seiko, Orient or Citizen, but that's pretty much where your options end. There are Chinese and Russian watches in this price range, but IME the quality isn't as good as Japanese. Of course, if you want a Swiss mechanical and don't mind used, you could get lucky on eBay, a thrift store or flea market if you know what you're looking for.
Nothing wrong with a quartz watch, by the way. Maintenance is cheaper and accuracy is generally way better than mechanical. I have a Rolex quartz watch that is simply amazing, one of my favorite watches in my collection. It's a shame they don't make them anymore.
