NotDeDMy opinion the watch you bought was old and the battery died. You got a message from them so they could cover their proverbial rear ends. The watch is built to spec as most other watches in this price range.
For example Timex is built to even cheaper specifications and they typically don't die because a cellphone was nearby.....
Anyhow, sorry to hear. Hopefully all is better now.
