The Swiss railway clock, an icon of horology, has become one with the Mondaine brand. The Mondaine Giant Backlight—whose name may be slightly misleading given its 42-millimeter case—is a quartz watch with the classic Mondaine aesthetic: That’s an easy-to-read dial with large black stick markers and a bright-red seconds hand Read More
arehmanJust received mine this morning and I love it! The lack of lugs is an interesting design but really makes that iconic Swiss railway clock design stand out. The strap is soft and smooth and is thinner at the ends as it buckles against your wrist. It does sit up quite high due to the design but I like it - makes it more noticeable. The face has ever so slightly raised hour markers that provide a more sophisticated look. The lume shines bright but I haven’t tested for how long. The lume on the back of the hands is very unique and looks good in the dark. The only drawback that I can think of is that the second hand does not sweep like the Mondaine clocks on the platforms. At this price ($80), I can easily let this go. Overall, very excited about the watch and looking forward to trying out some other strap combinations (22mm).
arehmanif you mean on this https://goo.gl/images/7AiVUz then thank you. scrolled down some 1 week ago and found only 1 shot in the dark courtesy by mondaine USA, so it is not really relevant for me.
I received the watch and it looks good and everything but... no backlight. Unless I'm missing something and you need to do something special to activate this feature, the watch has absolutely no backlight for me -- it's completely invisible in the dark. Do I have a defective version? Anyone else experiencing this problem?
Thanks -- I suspected as much but I couldn't tell, since I never saw any light even after days of wearing it. I do have a pretty nocturnal lifestyle (one of the reasons why I like watches with illuminated hands) so maybe it's because I never wear it enough during the daytime to charge. I'll try to leave the watch in the sun for a while and see if that does it.
BladegunnerI actually got a watch from this drop - a defective one with misaligned hands. I submitted a return request 4 days ago, and nothing has happened. They provided a link to view the ticket, and it refuses to authenticate - I can't view the disposition of the request. I left a review of this defective watch here, and the review tab doesn't show up for my brother, and probably not for you either. Seems they're blocking it. FYI, they cancelled my order for the Bertucci Ventara Classic Field Watch like they did yours for this one.
Wish this drop included the smaller version. I had the regular (non-backlight) version of this watch and it was cartoonishly large. I have other 42mm watches, so it wasn’t that the size was too large for my wrist, but this design looks better in a slightly more conservative size, IMO.
If you have small wrists you must not wear anything above 38mm.
40+mm will look like a plate on your wrist and it won't hold position at all, it will instead revolve around instead of staying in place.
