LouReadsWouldn't it be nice if there were more small companies with the same buying power as amazon? I have a slight suspicion that buying 2000 of these in bulk would fetch a lower unit price than just 20, but hey, I've been known to be wrong sometimes. Props to Massdrop for the effort, though. To succeed you gotta keep trying, not everything can be a homerun! (though from what I saw all the people buying EcoReco Scooters got a SWEET deal)
BjornkarlAmazon doesn't sell them, they're sold on the Amazon marketplace via Monoprice, which essentially means Amazon doesn't do anything except list the product on their site.
A common misconception that "if it's on Amazon, they bought 2000 of them and they're all sitting in the Amazon warehouse waiting to be sold"
Realistically Monoprice just uses Amazon for search/advertising. Amazon takes about a 12% cut on the transaction, minus shipping fees, so when you "buy" it on Amazon for $80, Monoprice makes about $60, Amazon makes about $10, and UPS/Ontrac about $12.
