I want to use this as a monitor and tv, ideally with Google chromecast. Any idea if an hdmi-to-dvi adapter in conjunction with a dvi switcher would work with this?

evan.cordellI'm not sure it's going to look all that great because chromecast max output is 1080p, which isn't native to this monitor... I could be wrong though.

evan.cordellAs SSV3NOM said, HDMI will only produce 1080p. The monitor can support it, but you won't really be using it to its full potential.

evan.cordellI'm not sure you understand what Chromecast is. All Chromecast does is put things that would normally be on your computer onto your TV. Chromecast is designed for TVs that are not already hooked up to a computer.

nickum32@nickum32 Right now I do things like use VLC with a remote app, or control netflix from the computer, which is across the room. The nice thing about chromecast is the remote part, especially since I'll have content on my network I want to watch, as well as netflix, hbo go, and amazon. XBMC and Plex are really lacking in their streaming support. Plus I could use my laptop while watching something. <br /><br />@SSV3NOM, @andrew.b My network is too slow to get full 1080p anyway. But I did some research on this and it looks like the hardware for splitting and converting would be upwards of $400 (You can't just get a cable splitter). And that's not counting how you'd handle audio from the hdmi signal.

evan.cordellAhhhh, fair enough. That actually makes a lot of sense. And for $35, it's really hard to find much fault with it.

evan.cordellWith Plex you don't need to stream, it's now a web based media server. You can access your content from basically any medium that has internet. iPad, iPhone, Xbox, Playstation, over airplay, smart TV, etc. and you can use your smart phone/tablet as the remote. I can be at my studio watching content from my house on my computer or TV and control it from my phone, not to mention it will play the content in recorded resolution.

mcrane@mcrane Last time I tried using it, the Netflix plugin didn't work. I couldn't get a couple of the other plugins to work either. They weren't very actively maintained. That might have changed now, but chromecast is still better because I don't need my laptop plugged into my monitor/tv to use it.
