Product Description
Made of Italian full-grain calfskin, the Montblanc Sartorial bifold won’t look out of place with dressy or business attire on a more formal night out. The leather is chrome tanned, dyed through for depth of color, and finished with a saffiano pattern that gives it a water- and scratch-resistant quality Read More

I love saffiano wallets, so would consider this - but is that a metal emblem on the front poking out? I'm always wary of things like that getting caught on my pockets. Also, the description says it uses Italian leather, but is it made in Italy, or elsewhere? Design-wise, this is almost identical in appearance to my Prada saffiano wallet, so if the materials and quality are on par or near, then for $200 it's quite reasonable. I would really appreciate it if they could put up a photo showing the thickness of the wallet when it is closed...

SmithyNZIt is a 'precious resin' emblem on the front (AKA plastic; I think it's some kind of acetate, so yes it's a bit more 'precious' than your average crap plastic). In 11 years, mine has not been caught anywhere, and it's surprisingly resilient (look for pictures in my post below). My wallet is made in Germany (I remember it had a little card in its box). I have read that they are now made in Italy, outside Florence.

For those doubters, who think these are the same, quality wise, as a $50 wallet: you are wrong! I have a Montblanc wallet, was a fortieth birthday present (cost, 11 years ago: almost $400 Canadian dollars). I'm 51 now and have been using it - carefully - since then, and it looks two or three years old at most. No other wallet I ever had, no matter the price point, has ever had this level of quality! It is worth every penny at $200! My wallet, after 11 years of careful - but daily - usage:

BobrazGood point, I would like to know what that means too? I mean a wallet basically has some simple functions that all should be able to accomplish very well. That's what makes a wallet a good wallet. One should not have baby a wallet, or use it in an uncommon manner that would make it just fall apart within a week.

@Chipp1 I guess I can understand it sounds weird... 😁 Basically what I meant is, I don't throw it around, I keep it from moisture. In my pockets, I avoid keys in the same pocket. When I'm back home, it goes in a drawer until the next day.

$199.99 seriously? It's not even a LV to pay so much

Unless you're real chubbed about Montblanc or really like these aesthetics, there are better options out there at this price or cheaper. I mean, the Ashland shell cordovan wallet is on right now for $40 less

Shell is just an amazing leather. Durable, dressy, and ages so well. Perfect mix between luxe and practicality.

I get your point. Ashland has dressier wallets as well. But I don't think the materials used in this wallet warrant the asking price. Plus, they are likely not hand-made, probably do not come with life-time guarantee as provided by Ashland and several other leather craftsmen in US. More importantly, the shell leather used in those wallets are in various rich colors such as burgundy, whisky, magenta, etc, and they look especially stunning under sun light, showing a depth of color that not seen in a black wallet in this drop. I have recently bought an Ashland bifold wallet with bison leather exterior, it is my favorite winter wallet right now. The leather has an amazing pattern of rich brown and tan color, and for only $75. Can't beat that!
