For the owners out there, are these IEMs good for something like a plane ride? Also, how do these compare in sound quality with something like a HD6xx? I don't really have anything else to base off of and I know it's weird to be comparing headphones to IEMs but would like to know. Thanks!

tomoki_hereThat depends largely on the tips you end up buying for them, the JVC Spiral Dots and the Dekoni Bulletz should be the best for that, but I still take my Bose QC20i on the plane, even though they are falling apart and the sound is quite bad, but the noise cancellation is golden for plane and train rides.

snowsurferThanks for the insight! Yeah I'll be using those 3 cone tips for my earbuds or else I won't be able to fit them into my ear. Bullets probably won't fit very well other than the smallest size; medium hurts after a while. I'll be on 2 x 18 hour flights and a few more shorter (5 hour or so) flights in between. I was actually looking at the Bose QC25! I read they're great with noise cancelation for plane flights and they're easy to swap batteries with. I did check out the QC 20s too but yeah... I'm not sure on both since noise isolation seems to be good enough with me... (I'm spending on a camera so... I'm trying to decrease costs where I can) I'm using Beyerdynamic idx 200 ie but they don't work the best with plane seat jacks and they're no good with my phone. They're only good on a computer. I wish I knew before I got them but yeah. I can't find anything online about a cable change either to fix my situation.

tomoki_hereIsolation of the KPE is not as good unfortunately. Also for a headphone sound signature these sound like the Audio-Technica MSR7SE or the Focal Elex.

WHO23Thanks for your insight! I think I'll be passing on this pair... given my situation haha. I just hope someone in the Audiophile community is able to respond to that post.

WHO23@WHO23, Hmmm. Don’t know about the AT you are referencing, but I own both the Kanas Pro and the Elex and the Kanas Pro don’t sound anything like an Elex. I love the Elex as well, but they have very different sound signatures - with the Elex being the brighter (and more dynamic) of the two. If the KP sounded like the Elex, by the way, it would be a raging steal at the price it is being sold. As is the KP are great IEMs in my opinion, though. @tomoki_here, the Kanas Pro are a very good sounding set of IEMs. But they do take some work as you will need to find the tips that will give you a very good seal, and the long stem on them is a challenge. Check out Head-fi - most users report being very satisfied, but of course there will always be some for whom the sound or the ergonomics aren’t a good match. There are also good tips on tips :-). I own a few IEMs. The KP, DM6, and Fearless S8F are the ones I am currently keeping in rotation (replacing my last rotation grouping of Westone W30, Shure SE846, and Massdrop Plus). My poor EDC3, Shure SE215, ATH E70, Echobox Nomads, Westone W50, and a host of others sit forsaken in a drawer... one other note... sound isolation on an airplane is a tough thing to accomplish. If you go for IEMs to use on planes to block out noise you will need to use foam tips (much better isolation than silicone ones), and understand that foam tips will change the sound signature by reducing the highs (making the IEMs sound boomier). If you are really going to need something for many plane rides I would suggest the Sony 1000XM3 over ear noise cancelling headphones. Great passive isolation and class leading noise cancellation.

jsmiller58Fair enough you’re spot on. I was thinking that the Kanas Pro has punchy bass, have slightly recessed vocals with a mediocre timbre, and have highs that sparkle but non sibilant (since they play it safe). The ATH-MSR7SE sounds much closer though with low resonance bass, with a 800hz dip in between (which Elex also has) and also uses DLC coated diaphragms.

jsmiller58Hahaha dang it. I've actually been looking at the Sony 1000xM3's you've mentioned and I've been staring at stuff like Bose QC 20, 25, 35 and also Sennheiser HD 4.5 The thing is, I don't think I have the budget to fork out more dough when I'm spending on a camera on the side... that'll be my priority at the moment sadly. I was hoping to fix my audio situation but it seems like that will have to ride on luck with the plane seat now. :(((((

WHO23Almost right on, except the mids aren’t that recessed, and there is very little sparkle with the highs. Rolled off highs is more like it, which affects the timbre, but yes, that’s fairly close.
