If you want to add some protection against chipping, go to a hobby store and get some gloss and matt varnish. You can get them in small spray cans in case you don't have an airbrush. Apply the gloss coating selectively (possible with an airbrush) over the areas most likely to chip or all over (if using a can) then follow up with a layer of matt coating all over. Gloss varnish offers more protection against chipping, and the matt will make it blend in with the rest and preserve the matt look. Don't forget to mask the nozzle and plug openings.
