I'll vouch for Mountainsmith in that they have good customer support and excellent build quality on their older products. I have an old 90s Drake pack that I still use occassionally as a light hike pack. I think pre 1995 they made all their products here in the States, but everything in their line except for some smaller specialty items is made in China now. Having said that, I have purchased some of their newer items like the Vibe TLS, Cooler tube, and Boot Cube and been very satisfied. Jumped in this drop because the price is too good to pass up and I might have to retire my Teal Drake pack for this new one.

nickranaThey are primarily sourced from Vietnam, not China. I can't speak for all of their products but I have seven different items from them currently that range from about 2002 to 2015....all are Vietnam except the oldest pack that is Sri Lanka. Mountainsmith and several other companies have used Vietnamese factories both to support that country's economy and because they have generally had higher standards of quality, although China has caught up there and can produce excellent products now (if you seek it out and pay for it...there is surely still a lot of junk made there but that's not an indicator of their true capabilities). Mountainsmith is a great company overall.
