I have three of the Mountainsmith Celestial 2 man tents, and one of the Mountainsmith Morrison 2 man tent. The Celestial tents are blue, the Morrison is citrine (yellowish, light green), the tents are otherwise the same.
We all, my sons and I, started out in the Celestial tents. My sons are 27 and 22, about 5'11 each and around 185 and 165. I am female, 5'5 and about 130.
The tents are very roomy for one person. We have never slept two in any of these tents; we each have our own tent.
We hiked the AT last year as day hikers and camped at Loft Mountain Campground and at Big Meadows Campground.
We started camping May 2, and ended camping the last week of October.
The tents went through three seasons, with our last camping feeling like winter with a low of 28°F (not sure what the wind chill was). We camped ~36 nights total.
My sons used only the Morrison Celestial for their tenting.
We had winds at times, (both campgrounds are atop mountains) and the tents never succumbed. We had some rain, and the tents never leaked...until we camped at Big Meadows Campground with the remnants of Hurricane Florence passing through. All of the Mountainsmith tents withstood the wind, however, all three of the Mountainsmith tents leaked during that storm.
The leaks occurred around the vents. We had not added extra seam seal. The tents were used in new condition from the manufacturer/retailer. Seam seal may stop the leaks. Thankfully, I was using a Mountainsmith Foothills Camping Blanket which repelled the drops that continually dropped at my head. I initially tried to wipe the drops away intermittently, but, eventually, want of sleep won over and I moved over on my 25" pad to miss the drops and I went to sleep.
Other than that one storm, the tents performed great. I always zipped up my two door windows at night with the full fly on. I never was too hot. In the 28° temperature, I would have loved to have been able to zip up all the mesh; but, I guess that would be a 4 season tent.
I was sent the Morrison tent when my Celestial tent developed a couple of small tears/holes/stretching (?) in the mesh.
They sent me the Morrison tent.
After all of our tents leaked during the remnants of Hurricane Florence, I sent an email to customer service telling them how well the tents held up, except for the leaking around the vents.
I never heard back from them.
I was let down by them not even acknowledging my email. I was not asking for replacements; I genuinely, was still pleased with the tents.
I still wonder about how great they were initially, and then total silence.
As for the tents, they are easy to set up, and they met our needs.
I used the Vaude 3 person Campo on my last tenting out and I liked how the zipper on the vestibule zips from the lower corner. In the Morrison, I have to really stretch to unzip the vestibule down the middle all the way to the ground stake (that is probably more due to me); but, I really like the Vaude Campo 3 vestibules. (I bought all of our tents, Mountainsmith Morrison and Vaude Campo 3 at Sierra Trading Post with 25% off).
Every tent has different advantages and disadvantages over other tents.
For a two man tent, the Mountainsmith Morrison 2 and the Celestial 2 are very roomy and with the extra length very nice.
