if they could make this to work as a hammock tarp as well as a ground shelter, it would be amazing! Just a few tie out points at key locations, make both ends symmetric and bam, you have a 2 in 1 shelter/tarp.

sorry for the novice q: why would someone get a 2 lb tarp if they can get a 2 lb tent + rainfly? just the price?

octavecatif you have money to spare you are correct. However, the price point of this is very good. a 2 pound tent that has this much room for two people would be about over $400. I own this product and for the situations I use it for it is fantastic. Easy set up, stable in wind when secured well. Almost no 2 person tents that are light weight have anything close to this much space for people and gear. However, the set back is that it is a tarp and not a tent...know the difference for the situation are you using it for for those deciding

Don't carry trekking poles for bike trips. Will using a regular stick instead instead damage the cover?

seriously all the nasty bug encounters I've seen and had myself mosquitoes are the least of my worries. Centipedes eating into people ear membranes, people waking up covered with ticks, snakes finding cozy spots.... I like tents :)

This is a piece of equipment that I own. I researched it for a while before I purchased it and I can tell you this is a good price and the shelter works well. You need to pick a campsite carefully to prevent pooling of rain, but otherwise this is a great piece of equipment. Setup is easy and there is tons of room under the tarp. My wife and I sat out a sierra thunderstorm two weeks ago. I am 5'11", my wife is 5', we had all of our gear in there, most of our stuff was out of backpack because we were cooking dinner and we were able to throw everything under the tarp and laydown and wait out the storm. At two, pounds this has the balance of price, weight and performance to consider. My two cents.

Just received mymoutainsmith mountain shelter LT and mine is not yellow it's like a baby poop green/ yellow. :( sucks because it's really ugly !

The vendor informed us that the group's order was picked up and is on its way to our warehouse. Based on the tracking provided, the order is scheduled to arrive 3/14.
Sometimes shipments get delayed en route, but we will keep the group updated throughout the fulfillment process and notify you all if anything causes delay.

Thanks again for joining this drop! We have submitted the group's order with the vendor for the Mountainsmith Mountain Shelter LT and they are working hard to prepare it for shipment.
As soon as the group's order is ready at the vendor's location, they will send the bulk shipment to our warehouse in New Jersey where our warehouse team will break it up into individual orders and ship them. The current estimated ship date from our warehouse is 3/18.

I got one of these and plan to try it out next week. I have been using a BetaLight as my primary tent for the past 15 years. This will be an interesting comparison. Thanks for the bit about the guy-out points and the waterproof fabric.
