watch is nice and even the price is not bad, but think Movado is a bit late to the automatic watch game without offering anything new or unique. Most semi-watch fans will still think the piece on your wrist is just another quartz watch.

dealaholicMovado has offered automatics for at least 15 years that I know about (past coworker had one) but they are hard to find and nothing special. Like you said they look like another Movado quartz.

dealaholicMovado is a legit watch brand. I'm not a huge fan of the museum but their vintage watches are superb, especially those from the 1940s when they had the same suppliers as Patek for some of the components of their movements! They embraced the quartz crises and survived and sure this is another run-of-the-mill swatch group type watch but ultimately Movado isn't a fashion-quartz watch brand, they are legit and they definitely aren't late to the automatic game haha!

dealaholicI'll echo what has been said as well, they actually do/did have a run in the right direction and vintage Movado can be highly desirable, ie I'm not super fond of their most of their modern offerings (they are making good inroads however and putting out more better quality pieces lately so it's commendable) but man in the 70s during high point of their buddy buddy-up with Zenith, and due to an interesting issue in the US over name rights, consumer confusion, and a big Television brand by the same name, they had the Movado [Zenith] El Primero chronograph in a television [ironically] case and a more traditional cushionish variant. These are are some of the coolest watches in their history and definitely the zebras In a herd full of horses so far as their otherwise blase and boring modern watches and which especially since the 90's fall into the trap of going more mall fashion watch and heavy in quartz high on mark up and ever decreasing quality. Still, dang, these were /are cool watches (as with many brands some of the most interesting designs came in the 70's) Pictured bottom of ad

dealaholicUhhh, wtf? Movado was making automatics back in the bumper days (I assume you're going to google that)
I don't know why bashing Movado is like, some kind of initiation rite for people who like to pretend they know watches. Their styling can be polarizing but come on

sockpuppyhahaha  agree with you completely! Though in their defence, I can understand how people without an interest in vintage could think they were a quartz brand. Hopefully the shame of always being associated as such will encourage Movado to going back to making awesome watches hahaha!
P.S. I was heartbroken when I was sniped and lost one of their bumpers, such an awesome/unique small seconds day-date!

Danbo_de_PianoWow those are awesome chrono's!! I had never quite understood the Zenith/Movado duality makes sense now cheers haha. I even like that museum from the ad i'd love just it, if at least half or I'd even settle for 25% or even 10% of their watches were not museum or museum-ish haha!

Sorry, but in business you're only as good as your last product. It doesn't matter what they did in the paleolithic era, Movado doesn't currently have anything newsworthy to show in the automatic space.

dealaholicYeah, that's pretty much me. And while I agree to an extent on the "you need to innovate", let's keep in mind we're talking about mechanical watches here, so what a brand was doing 50 years ago is unfortunately more relevant than it would be in most areas. But we might as well be discussing which brand has the latest most up to date horse harnesses. Mechanical watches are anachronistic by choice, and that includes all the latest gyrotourbillons and coaxial escapements.
A $20 quartz movement is far superior to any of those, and if you want expensive for the sake of expensive there's always 9F movements from Seiko and that sort of thing.

dealaholicAutomatic space!! It's an ETA 2824-2 with a case, dial, hands and strap. Like any number of Tudors, Breitling, hamiltons, Sinn, Stowa... the list goes on practically forever, it is THE most common movement from THE most prevalent Swiss movement manufacturer. It is what makes it an automatic! and its been in continuous production since the early 80's!
You don't like the design OK, neither do I! but all this nonsense about 'automatic space', 'late to the automatic game', wow just utter nonsense.
