I cant play Star Citizen till I get a GPU! Waaaa!
Fuck off with that price-jacking/cryptominer horseshit.
Yes. The GPU manufacturers need to somehow cripple these cards for mining. Some say it can't be done but I say it's BS since mining specific cards ARE in the market. It's simple....the cards are on the internet....they get detected in large numbers and used for mining from the same IP address.....ZAP!! Unusable for anything other than a paper weight.
what you suggesting is so highly illegal I don't even know how to respond. Imagine, any manufacturer not liking how you use their product so they disable it... Is that the kind of world you want to live in>? I guess there will be more access to "gamming" video cards in your utopia.
I've already heard solutions along those lines from others in the tech industey so its not something I came up with. And yes....these cards are being miss used by cryptominers so they SHOULD be stopped. If a cellphone company can cripple a smartphone if it's modified how is this any different?
Microcenter is offering MSRP or close for gpu if you buy a bundle of mobo memory cpu and power supply (to prove its for gaming) according to PC Gamer.com
That's cool. I'll have to check it out. Was planning on using a 1060 6GB when.it was around the $250 mark which is MSRP. Hopefully they continue the offer when I'm ready to build my machine. Too many audio goodies right now.
I just want to get another GTX 1080 strix 8gb to match the one I already have for SLI.
Is the performance boost for SLI worth it?
its kinda dimminishing returns, not quite like with the 900 series cards, where performance is doubled, but it helps immensly with VR, and 4k gaming. can't afford a new Titan V. and I doubt ill be able to get a hold of or afford the new Nvidia achitecture card when they release later this year. also need to be sure to get a correct HB bridge much like what Nvidia offers on their site. the ones that come with your motherboard may work in a pinch, but most are ugly as sin, and some dont function well or support higher bandwidth..
I dont mind the miners, however there should be mining only cards available at a decent price. I've looked into mining, or even possibly adding 2, or 3 nvidia P105, or P-106-100's (basically a 1060 with no video outputs, and the video portion of GPU disabled) as well as a few tweaks to optimize them for mining.. 4GB... theyre just not worth it, and if you decide later that mining is pointless you have a $450 card that is basically worthless to re-sale except to a miner, or someone running BOINC 24/7... these cards arent even offered in small quantities... have to order lots of a thousand or more...
