Why couldn't I just put my VR notebook (that cost $1,400 and has equal/better specs) into a slim backpack and do the same thing?

RochambeauxI mean, if you want to play about an hour then have a burned out hunk of metal, sure, you could do that. Laptops don't run too well in bags, and that goes doubly so for ones with discrete graphic cards.

SvHDI could easily rig a strap system to have it on the outside of the pack, easily cooling all that is needed. This solution would need to be about $400 cheaper to even begin to entertain purchasing it. Hence the staggering backing count of Z E R O

The TP cast wireless solution for the vive can be purchased right now via chinese resellers for approx $400. Cheaper and you don't have to wear a heavy backpack.

This is super cool but I feel if I just wait a year I can get this for half
nathannjhWell, you certainly can get this cheaper in a year for sure. But if you are always waiting a year for something to be cheaper or for waiting for the next big thing that is supposed to be released then thats all you will do. Wait.

this is a great buy in my opinion. the specs are perfect for the target market. I understand the extra several hundred dollars premium for the form factor and "portability". That being said, it's too expensive for me and i would rather wait another several years for vr to be perfected.

This is simultaneously the dumbest and coolest thing I've ever seen.

I don't think you all are seeing the potential here, this rig also doubles as a mobile video production kit! You can shoot, edit, and render your video all without sitting down! Wedding videos will be available before the honeymoon, movies can be shot and finished in half the time, and indie films can be made the day they're released!

$2k for this or ~$200 for the wireless adapter for the Vive? Tough decision.

DemoknightYea, the rush to make these was quickly squashed when those 2 Chinese companies whipped out functioning prototypes pretty quick. That native rez, 90fps was possible wirelessly with only 2ms delay was pretty surprising. Now then just have to actually produce the damn things.
