Can someone explain what benefits the workstation GPUs offer over the gaming GPUs? Performance-wise this seems comparable to the 1060 mobile (6gb) but much more expensive. It has to have some benefit other than avoiding the shame of showing up with a gamer laptop (some of them are pretty discrete now anyway). I use my alienware 15 with 1060 for Lightroom and other photo/video editors all the time and it works well. What makes these so much more expensive?

Fcchelsea136These days it's mostly the CAD design and 3D modeling programs that benefit from the quadro gpus. The quadro drivers have a better OpenGL implementation and some programs include features that are only enabled with a 'certified' gpu. Hardware wise this is exactly the same hardware as the GTX980 gaming gpu just with more memory, it's really only the drivers that make it different.
