What is the difference between this and the MSR WhisperLite? Just the shape/size and dual valves?

ferrellwHello. My name is seenypaul and I am a stove junkie. (Hi seenypaul.) I have a lot of stoves. All kinds of fuels. Alcohol, solid, iso-propane mix, propane, white gas, multi-fuel liquid. I've owned both the Dragonfly and WhisperLite for a long time, although I haven't used my Dragonfly in a few years. Just used my WhisperLite on a trip this month. Both good stoves with points in favor of each. The WhisperLite is pretty quiet, as the name implies, while the Dragonfly roars quite literally. I find my WhisperLite slightly sootier on startup. Dragonfly doesn't fold up quite as compact, and is a tad heavier, but IMHO is more stable in use for larger pots. If you're comparing the WhisperLite International, then both burn the same range of fuels. [Edit: correction on fuels in that there are still differences regarding automotive fuels used.] The standard WhisperLite uses white gas only. Unless something has changed since I bought mine, the fuel pump for the Dragonfly is specific to only that stove. Other MSR liquid fuel stoves can interchange pumps.

ferrellwI'd like to emphasis that the dragonfly can SIMMER! That's what the dual valve allows, better flame control. The whisperlite does a pretty poor job of it. So it really comes down to the type of cooking you want to do. You what to be able to simmer a lovely sauce on trail, then the dragonfly is the better choice. I personally don't find the dragonfly terribly loud. I've had canister stoves that were far louder!

ferrellwYeah, the Dragonfly does give finer flame control with the second valve. I have simmered with my WhisperLite too. But that isn't something that I find a lot of use for on a hiking trail. As to whether the Dragonfly is loud, well, there are plenty of reviews over the years that have agreed with my view pretty strongly on that point. Just do a little search. Here are links to a couple of video comparisons between these two models. (I am neither of these two reviewers.)
