EDIT: I purchased a second one and just received it. The entire process was exactly the same as with the first one, so there's really no way I was "just lucky" again. If you've never assembled anything in your life that requires actual force to put together, this might be a bit frustrating for you, so be prepared for that. As I said in my original review: Take it easy and assembly it with sensibility. Other than that it's an awesome stand. ---------------------------------- First off, I have to say that the negative reviews are a bit over the top in my estimation. I honestly don't know what to make of them. But that's neither here nor there, so let's get into the details: In regard to fumes or smells, there were no problems in my case. I might have been lucky or whatever, but fact is that the stand did not smell at all out of the box. Not that it would have been a problem as these things usually dissipate easily, especially since this is not fabric. So let's get into assembly and the design itself. As others have pointed out: Yes, putting the individual pieces together requires strength indeed, but it is absolutely manageable, and makes for an absolutely stable, rock solid design when you're done. There are really no extra tools required. In hindsight, I would recommend some gloves to make it easier on the hands when applying pressure (did not use them personally though). If you take the effort and do it properly, then the finished stand does not wobble whatsoever, not even slightly. I have to emphasise that this thing is very sturdy. I honestly thought it would break very easily given how much pressure it requires to put the pieces together, but even the tiny acrylic plates are super super tough, so don't be afraid to use a bit of well-placed force until you get the perfect fit - juts do it in a sensible manner, and emphasis on "well-placed". Don't use hot glue or whatever, that's just gonna ruin it. Just take it easy, step by step and it's gonna work out fine. Some have wondered wether the edges would damage/scratch a keyboard - but they're not sharp, so I don't see a problem there. If you're not sure, or if your keyboard is super sensitive, you could still use some felt protector pads. So, that's it pretty much. I wouldn't have normally posted such a long review for such a simple product, but as mentioned I don't think the other write ups have been fair in any regard. Aesthetically, the stand looks great and pretty much the same as seen in the photos (might post some of my own later). Yes, it's bulky obviously, but that's the whole point of the design - not sure why people complain about that either. Some minor inconveniences are missing instructions and the quality of packaging/protection (resulting in some barely visible scratches) and as mentioned the assembly process could possibly be made easier. The quality of packaging needs to be improved, even just some protective film on the acrylic would have been great - instead of just the wrapping. But I don't know if Drop or the manufacturer was responsible for that, my focus is on the product itself here. The only thing I can find in terms of "instructions" is this (not much, but maybe it helps):

The orientation of the center support can be a bit confusing. It doesn't matter which way you assemble the center support - it does not affect the installation. The most convenient way to assemble, is to install both of the center supports onto one of the thick acrylic plates (it does not even have to go all the way in initially), then install the corresponding plate on the other side. Then apply pressure from both sides, pushing the two plates together, to get the center supports all the way in. Apply slight pressure from top or bottom to get it all even, and it will stop wobbling (like you would do when adjusting frames of glasses/sunglasses). Anyway, I'm sure there will be more bad reviews incoming. Honestly, upon reading the first reviews, I also thought I would be in for a bad surprise (I had not received mine yet). But the result speaks for itself. Maybe I got super lucky (in terms of fumes and possible damage), but given how hyperbolic some of the responses are in regard to assembly & smell, I kinda have my doubts. Make of it what you will.

Works as intended
I was looking for a way to display my keyboards when i finally came across this Drop. Assembly was easy enough, although a lot people seem to have problems with that. Same seems to go with the smell of the stand, while i didn't experience any strong smells, your milage may vary. While it works for me, i might be one of the lucky few, who got on the working orders, keep that in mind before buying.

A precious stand for something precious.
First of all, it's really strong. This product can endure whatever is placed on it. But I put my precious keyboard on it.

Just garbage.
The quality of these are simply terrible. The assembly of these is near impossible. The precision is non existent. There is a horrible stench. After several years of purchases on drop I will be leaving the community. again. This Product is trash.

Machining was sloppy
The stand looks pretty good as solid chunks of acrylic. The problem is the machining is sloppy and I was unable to even put the pieces together without modification. Disappointing product.

Holy hell the acrylic fumes from this thing upon opening! I feel bad for the workers who cut this, you can tell it was packaged right after being cut. A couple dings, and it's not the most stable design (friction, without stabilization or locking into place), but otherwise it works and looks pretty damn good. B+

That's not how 1-5 rating systems work genius. 3 means good. Figure out the rest yourself, and dont bother replying back because I DONT CARE.

wowremyMate, that's literally how a rating systems works. 3 out of 5 is exactly 60% - And that's not a "good" rating. If you don't care, then why do you type? Don't be so brash.

Not pleased, won't assemble
Mine didn't smell but it has the same assembly issues. Pieces don't fit comfortably. You have to use extreme force to get them into position but even then they aren't straight or even. Will have to take a mallet to the cross pieces in order to get them more even. Can't use it to hold keyboards yet because it wobbles.

Bad
The product came wrapped in plastic, and smelled very strongly like acetone. After washing, the smell went away so I can't deduct points for that. The product is assembled by friction fit which makes it unreliable when trying to make it sit flat. Some of the openings were too large or too small meaning that I had to use hot glue to properly secure them. The design of this product is just lazy, a few small adjustments would make it worth the money and wait. Build or buy something better.

You can smell the strong fumes without even opening the package. Smells like pure acetone. I'll see if the smell dissipates over night outside.
