Not very good at opening taped boxes with this small tool.
I guess I have to carry a knife instead.
Looks like it has multiple ways to open sealed boxes.
Is it because you have it on a keyring that makes it unusable? I myself would attach it to a steel string then my keyring. Gives you room to work with.
Really want to know details man.
I was in on the original Kickstarter, so have been using it since then. There is a problem with taped boxes, which varies according to the tape. It is not an actual blade, so depending on the tape, it can tear instead of cut, fouling the surface for pulling. Still works well, you just have to stop and remove the bits of tape before continuing.
I never had a problem opening boxes with regular clear packing tape, Amazon tape or that brown paper tape with the threads in it... It always cut through no problem. I just read the other comments though about the cutter getting stuck on the tape, but on the packaging and in the video, that's not what they use to cut the tape with. The box opener/tape cutter feature is on the side. Since that's what I've always used, maybe that's why I never had an issue.
On the side? What do you mean? I use the hook opposite the bottle opener.
Sorry for the poor description of the location of the box opener. It's the pointed edge opposite the regular flat head screwdriver on the head of key. It looks like a triangle on its side with beveled edged on both sides. It punctures tape and splits it quite easily for me.
I finally looked at the video, and see what you mean. Thanks for that! I was using the part that says it's a wire cutter... I guess that's why I was having problems. I'll try that next time I have to open a box.
Glad that's resolved, I thought no way it can't cut tape. :D
