You remember what trump said about Mexico? Among other things, he said: “...they’re not sending their best!” Well, turns out trump is full of shit about Mexicans (everything, actually), but there is some wisdom in that statement when it comes to whomever supplies watches to MD. They’re not always sending there best either. One should attempt to examine/evaluate the reason a given watch has found its way here—it’s an important part of the overall purchase decision. Mere presence is by no means a disqualifier, but it’s always a consideration.

ProfFingersUnfortunately the thing that most draws to MD are the funny reviews. I wish I could say it was the products, but the reviews give me more enjoyment than I think most of the products would.

When I look at a watch, I look at THE WATCH. If I can’t get past the “look” (design, appearance, presence), there’s no reason to proceed further (ie: give a rat’s-ass about who makes it, or what powers it). This watch failed at step one.

Whilst this company build great quality products this seems expensive for yet another SW200 engine. Although I have nothing against this movement, owning two at present. Or maybe quality brand watches in general are going up in price. Doesn't sound much of a deal.

The value is whatever people will pay. There is definitely a market, as people will pay 10 times the value of this watch for an item that tells the time no better. They aren't paying for the watch as a time telling item of equipment: they are paying for craftsmanship, aesthetics and, yes, exclusivity and status. It's kind of a pointless discussion, I think, because if you are here, on this page, contemplating this watch (and having already bought a Panzera and a Glycine) you have already stepped into the realm of buying an artefact with little objective value. A G-shock is a 'better' tool, objectively, than any automatic watch - even though it has the aesthetics of a piece of lego. A high quality timepiece (such as a multi-thousand dollar exclusive watch that gets traded) that keeps its value is a better proposition than an entry level watch if your criterion is monetary value. The only value of entry to mid-level watches is the intrinsic, subjective value that the buyer experiences. So, a panzera is not objectively of greater or lesser value than this MG, or any other mid-level purchase. If a buyer seeks the extras that this watch brings, it has value; if a buyer does not seek these qualities, then it has no value. We see this argument constantly in art, motor vehicles, bikes, clothes.... searching for objective value in something is kind of fruitless unless one values the technical or crafted mastery of an object as the main criterion. Then only those gatekeepers with special knowledge of the craft get to determine its worth (such as art critics; or in this instance watchmakers) and the rest of us are left to make judgement with imperfect insights. Above all, though, if an artefact speaks to you on an aesthetic level, and has obvious craftsmanship, and purchasing it doesn't leave you in want of daily basics, it can't be a bad choice, no?

Totally agreed, at the end of the day what you say is correct: unless you have a budget restriction!! Which is when little pieces of arbitrary information can be of value. I have enjoyed the conversation, hopefully talk again. Regards.
