I have a few of these...and I can speak to their performance. They do 'write'...but it's nowhere near smooth and comfortable as any other type of pencil. If you're looking for a durable pencil, one that doesn't break - and you're willing to press a little harder and deal with the significantly increased friction/drag, then these are nice. If you write a lot you could probably convince yourself to get used to it's performance. And I'm not saying it's like dragging a brick over concrete but there's a very discernable difference between this and standard pencils. While I don't write a lot, I do occasionally grab this because it does deal well with heavy handed abuse (such as I am when taking meeting or phone call notes...writing too quickly will break ordinary pencils - not this bad boy...it takes a beating). Whether it's worth 9 dollars a pencil is really up to you and your disposable income level. Good luck. One thing of note which massdrop didn't include in their description is: The pencil is primarily round but there is one flat side that prevents it from rolling (too far if bumped and if placed on an angled surface - they still roll mind you, but the flat usually prevents it from going too far). EDIT: Also wanted to point out that it leaves little bits of rubber on your page...since theoretically you're 'erasing' (as it's graphite and rubber) except that this leaves a mark...the rubber dust or remnants aren't quite as large or in quantity of normal erasing debris.
