j33fNot really. You wouldn't tuck the end of a NATO strap under the watch face (which may not even be possible). If the strap is too long, you run it through both keepers below the buckle, and then fold the end of the strap down over the top keeper and back through the one closest to the buckle.
If you get a leather strap you can cut it down if you want to. If you get a nylon strap, you can cut it and melt the ends together to keep it from fraying as shown in this video:
