I have owned the same Nespresso machine for 9 years (clean it every so often of course so maintenance for longevity is definitely key) and it continues to produce great espresso drinks. Nothing beats a cheap alternative (~$5.50 for 10 pods, I use 1 pod and run it through twice for each drink) to paying $4.00+ at any coffee shop in the morning in my opinion. Plus they ship extremely fast, usually delivered in 2 days with standard shipping.
I do agree that tastes to differ so I would suggest going to a store who has them on display with Keureg's to see the differences. I do enjoy Nespresso's occasional limited edition pods as well for good variety.

qua2kRunning a pod twice will over-extract the coffee leading to a not as good taste. If you want more coffee but less strong, you are better off running it once, then dropping the capsule and running just plain hot water. Try it, I bet you'll notice the taste improves.

Nespresso offer recycling in *some* parts of the world, but won't say how much they actually recycle... http://www.theguardian.com/sustainable-business/2015/may/27/nespresso-sustainability-transparency-recycling-coffee-pods-values-aluminum

I have one of these machines, and I also have a commercial plumbed in espresso machine along with the requisite cafe grinder and home roast. While I do prefer the output of my big setup, the Nespresso at my vacation home can't be beat for low mess, nearly instant warm up, and consistency. The Lungo capsules make a tastier Americano than your average Keurig coffee, and unlike Keurig are recyclable. It takes about 14 capsules to equal the aluminum in one soda can.

MrBromeoYou make a good point, I wonder if all people who expressed concern about the capsules also avoid drinking any beverage from a can :)

Elisiano@Elisiano, very true. I have also wondered about the mylar valve bags roasted coffee beans typically ship in. Those bags are not recyclable. If one is truly concerned about the environmental aspects of coffee, it is important to examine the entire supply chain. Coffee is fairly resource intensive to begin with. I also think about the massive waste of plastic coated paper cups in our landfills from all the coffee and fast food chains. It would be best to drink tap water only, in that respect.

http://www.firstcrack.com/product/hario-v60-pour-over-kit/ < $20.00 a nice starter kit for pour over coffee but if you were actually interested in the "Espresso aspect" then look up the Rok Espresso Machine it's a manual unit that is around the same cost but cleaner for environment.
