I also caved, and ended up buying a black + brown board from the eBay store. I thought at first that the colored modifiers were a stupid idea and didn't match at all, but the colors have kind of grown on me. They remind me a little of the colors on the buttons of my Steam controller, and the colors in the retro Apple sticker I slapped on my thinkpad (both pictured). It also lends a bit more personality to the KB--as opposed to the default keycap set, that is.
One strange thing, however, is that the colored modifier keys are double-shots. On the other hand, the default keycaps appear to me to be laser-engraved with a slightly off-white fill. They still appear to be molded from the same profile, though.
All in all, it was a very satisfying purchase for being only my second MKB. I got it to replace the steelseries 6gv2 that I bought 5 years ago when I first decided to get a "nice" keyboard, and the extra desk space alone was worth the money. I'll have to delve into the reprogrammable keys some other time and discover what advantages that yields, but even without that capability it's a very good keyboard. The backplate is also sufficiently thick that the plastic body doesn't ruin the noise of the keycaps, and I get a very satisfying THUNK noise out of each spacebar press.

If any of my keys are crooked, I haven't noticed. Like the top comment in your thread, though, it looks like that could be within tolerances. That's a really nice modifier keycap though. You make me wish I had gotten a white board instead.
