Why would you buy this one over the other currently running drop? Not a rhetorical question, I really want to know. The only differences I can tell are that this one is 55-300 and the other 70-300, this one has 4.5-6.3 aperture and the other 4.5-6.3, this one is non VR and the other is VR II, and finally this one has silent "Pulse" focus motor.

Mario.PaulVR= Vibration Reduction, which is HUGE. If you can't hold a camera perfectly stable, you need VR. Worth every penny for VR.

BeyondMaxPowerYeah I'm aware of the benefits of VR, my kit lens both have it. I was wondering if there was something else I was missing, like a higher quality focus motor in one or the other, or something else not advertised by Nikon.

Mario.PaulYou might be better off looking at the Nikon site to compare the differences. They're very well could be differences that may appeal to you. Great deal, and if it complements your other lenses, could be a great addition to your collection.

BeyondMaxPowerAlso put the VR meaning in for people who aren't familiar with it. Just trying to put basic info out because most comments mention VR, but without a definition, newer people to DSLR may have no clue and just exactly how important VR is.
