The Nikon D3300 DSLR is a compact and lightweight entry-level camera capable of professional image quality. It’s built with a 24.2 megapixel CMOS sensor and outfitted with Nikon’s favored EXPEED 4 image processor, which eliminates the more common optical low-pass filter for improved sharpness. With an easily grippable polycarbonate construction and a compact lock position on the included NIKKOR 18-55mm lens, it’s one of the smallest and lightest DSLR’s available on the market.
At the heart of the D3300 is the powerful 24.2 megapixel DX-Format CMOS sensor and the EXPEED 4 processor. Both work in tandem to provide improved color accuracy, high definition shots, and stunning professional image quality. The D3300 is particularly adaptable for difficult light situations, with a wide ISO range that works in low-light and reduces noise. The processor allows for continuous full-resolution shooting at a rate of 5 fps, as well as 1080p high definition video.
The D3300 is designed to be an accessible option for hobbyists and beginning photographers. A step-by-step Guide mode relays information and provides tutorials for various features of the camera. The shutter-release button automatically locks if there is no memory card inserted, saving forgetful photographers or beginners from shooting photos that aren’t being saved.
All of Nikon’s usual included modes are available on the D3300, as well as several improved features, special effect modes, and in-camera post-processing. Autofocus face tracking keeps subjects sharp while in motion. Scene Auto Selector mode intelligently pairs a pre-set Scene mode to produce the best shot settings for the lighting conditions. Panorama mode takes high-resolution views of cityscapes and scenes. Active D-Lighting accounts for high-contrast shooting by preserving a shot’s highlights and shadows for a more natural image. Optionally, WiFi is available with an optional WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter, so photos can be uploaded directly to the web from the camera.
Record impeccable 1080p video at 60 fps, or HD 720p and standard definition 480p with the D3300. Autofocus settings work to provide clear shots, while a face-detection feature keeps your subject in focus. By default, all videos save in the MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format. For audio, a monaural microphone is built into the camera, and an external microphone input is included.
This kit comes complete with an 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II Lens, with a range that equates to 35mm (at a focal range of 27-82.5mm). With a maximum extension of 2.6 inches from the camera, the lens is retractable for compact carry. VR2 vibration reduction with four stops of compensation prevents camera shake and keeps photos sharp. Accurate color representation is improved with a Super Integrated Coating on the lens, that also works to reduce flare and ghosting.
