A compact camera with an intuitive interface, the Nikon D5300 offers a great introduction to DSLR cameras. Equipped with a 24.2MP DX-format CMOS sensor and an EXPEED 4 image processor, it’s capable of high-resolution imagery and full-HD 1080p video recording at 60 fps Read More
Great camera. Have one now with an 18-105mm lens. Also, definitely worth the price with those two lenses. I bought just the body for this price but now you get two useful lenses for it.
I don't know anything about Nikon. I'm a Canon and Fuji guy.
It seems decent though. AFAIK Nikon doesn't make any really silly cameras like Canon does from time to time.
And that is a decent pair of lenses to have. Covering wide angle to quite a long telephoto.
It may be worth considering that according to DPReview, the 5300 has better metering/focus accuracy, performance, video mode, and most importantly, image quality. The K70 has better build quality and handling, but is about $600 for just the body. Both good cameras... just depends on what you’re looking for.
LefibonacciThe value is worth it at $479.99 here on MD for a brand new D5300.
However, with a D5300, it's a 5-year-old model that's two-generations behind, with the D5500 and the D5600 as newer models (D5600 released in 2016). It's quite an outdated model. It only sells well because of its low price.
If you really wanted to go for a D5300, I'm sure you can find a good quality used D5300 for cheaper. But at this point I'd suggest you go for a newer model for the same price.
It's actually quite comparable to the Canon Rebel series that get released at the same price, or Nikon's base/beginner level D3500.
