Is this grey market or does it have all of the US warranties? (1 year manufacturer + 5 year lens etc)

CorickHello,
This particular D7100 drop is an import from Europe. This means it wasn't brought to the US through one of the manufacturer's authorized distributors. The camera is still the exact same make and model, but the advantage is that they are typically less expensive for customers to purchase because there's no middleman fee.
This typically coincides with the disadvantage of gray market items - warranty support, which normal imports would lack. But we stand behind the products sold on Massdrop, and will provide the same one-year warranty on any camera you see listed in a drop.
Hopefully that helps clear up some of the confusion about the drop! If members strongly prefer US products that's a viable option as well, but keep in mind pricing may be less advantageous if that is the case.

Tex-ArozziDear B. Hutch,
Would you by any chance be able to tell us whether purchasing a warranty extension from Nikon would be possible with this drop?
Also, what about international warranty? I am asking as I will be studying abroad and this would become my companion for the time being, so I would like to be on the safe side in case that there is some kind of short-coming. What would the procedure be like then? Sending it back to MD for a replacement? Sending it to Nikon or an authorized dealer/repair shop?
Looking forward to your reply. Cheers, R.

Remedium@remedium Massdrop will stand behind the product and warranty it for a year including international purchases. The warranty itself will carry the same coverage as the manufactures warranty would. Massdrop will cover shipping on the unit to be repaired/replaced internationally.
As far as the extended warranty directly through Nikon I do not think that would be possible. As this is a Grey market camera there is technically no Nikon warranty to extend.
Overall you have a considerable amount of savings on this product and are warrantied through Massdrop for a year, both domestic and international.

Tex-Arozzi@B.Hutch Thank you for the extensive reply. While this makes me feel somewhat better about this deal, the whole concept of the Grey market has left me in some doubt.
Could you by any chance confirm what @Dave965 said holds true, namely that Nikon would *refuse* to even service Grey market cameras? That would technically mean that any camera to which the owner does not have the receipt would be declined a service, as its origin would then be unclear. After all, this is not a MD special edition as with the AKG K7XX; this ought to be the same camera that one can by in European stores, in this case. Thus, right now I have a hard time believing that I could not get this camera serviced by Nikon, and I thing we all would appreciate an official statement on this topic.
Thank you for your time and efforts.
Edit: What does owning a "Gray Market" Nikon product mean to you?
Nikon Inc. USA cannot provide any technical support or warranty service on Gray Market items. Additionally Nikon Inc. USA cannot perform any fee-based repair work on Gray Market items. Please do not contact Nikon Inc. USA for help with any Gray Market products. Please contact the reseller or importer of your Gray Market items for warranty and service information as well as software updates and downloads.

Never mind. IMHO, a caveat of such dimensions should be right up on the product page in *bold* print, albeit being potentially detrimental to business. After all, like any other business, one strives for one's customers' satisfaction, not only for offering the cheapest prices. These would be two completely different things, especially in the long run.

RemediumHello Everyone, If the drop becomes successful, we will be placing the order for the cameras from a vendor that acquired their inventory from Nikon. So even though by definition this is considered as grey market product because we are not an authorized Nikon retailer, authenticity of the camera is verified and validated.
As anything else that's sold through Massdrop, we stand behind our products completely. If anything happened within the year that's not is not as a result of accidental damage, we will assist with either repair or replacement depending on the severity of the damage.
Truth to be told, we are slightly surprised by Nikon USA's stance on grey market, or at least publicly on their company site. This is not at all reflective of our experience dealing with Nikon for repair service work. Nikon's camera service facility has always been great and accommodating with camera tune ups or repairs on cameras that were not originally purchased through Nikon USA. @Remedium @Dave965 @Corick

RemediumPretty sure you can't. Nikon states on their website that they won't repair or work on any non US warrantied camera.
