Where are you located that you're seeing 30 or 40 dollar shipping? It's $2.75 for me...

ecolemanNZ here.
It's actually cheaper for me to buy it from Amazon, ship it to a freight forwarder in the US, and have them send it on to me.

ceeekayI just find it strange how people constantly act shocked that international shipping for a group buy of 100 items or less isn't competitive with Amazon's rates. This is an American company shipping a low volume of goods located in America to primarily American customers after all.

ecolemanIt's not even comparing to Amazon's rates. It's comparing to Amazon's rates *plus* the rates of a freight forwarder, who is not only paying to ship, but is also profiting from the exercise. The number of items in the drop is irrelevant. MD shipping fees are ridiculous 100% of the time.
If, according to you, they aren't that interested in international orders, why do they send me multiple emails a day encouraging me to buy stuff from their site? They know where I live.

ceeekayThere's so many variables that go into international shipping and the number of item is *absolutely* one of them, the lower cost you're seeing from Amazon is because they know they can eat that 1 item's deficit and still profit from the 1000's of others they'll be sending in that same mode of transportation. Massdrop doesn't have that luxury. Economies of scale and all that.
I'd guess you opted into the emails, otherwise they wouldn't be sending them.

ecolemanSo you're ignoring the fact that even if I pay for shipping twice, it's still cheaper than Massdrop? The issue here is they claim you're getting a great deal, and then completely blow it on the shipping.
They could have better shipping rates, or a selection of shipping rates, and sell more items if they tried a little harder. Is dropping a low-cost item in the post so difficult?

ceeekayNo, I'm not ignoring that, I'm saying you should go that route because it's the cheaper option for you and more than likely every other international buyer.
" Is dropping a low-cost item in the post so difficult? " when we're talking about international shipping for a limited quantity of goods while beating the price of a competitor that's 1000's of times larger, yes it is difficult. Massdrop is in the business of making money and they can't do that by undercutting Amazon's prices to every corner of the globe.

ecolemanI've bought plenty of stuff from massdrop and their shipping rates to Australia are usually quite reasonable. I've purchased many things way heavier and bulkier than this for less than $10 shipping.
$32 shipping for a lightweight headlamp? That's a joke.
Amazon on the other hand, i find, usually has expensive shipping prices to Australia (or no shipping to Australia at all)
