For just a few bucks more, these are available online with no delivery delays/charges and any of the colors Nitecore offers. Not much of a drop from Drop...

Buy this light. It's fantastic. So small you'll never notice it. Hasn't failed me in the year or so that I've owned it. IMHO the second best Nitecore keychain light, I like the TIP2 better but it's much bigger.

I had to go find a review to see this uses a Micro-USB port for charging. Maybe if they made it USB-C I'd buy one but I refuse to buy anything with a Micro port anymore.

I purchased the copper model of this from Nitecore. It is very small and very light. I can't even feel it on my keychain. It is slightly shorter and slightly wider than my Victorinox Classic. It is extremely bright for such a small light, especially the turbo mode. It recharges easily by any USB port. It is the perfect backup/emergency light. My only con is the power button; it can turn on on my pocket. I solve this by keeping it in the demo mode so it turns off automatically after 30 seconds; if needed, switching to the regular mode is super easy.

I bought one at regular price through amazon for around $30. It's great! I love how tiny it is and it's super bright for it's size. I keep one in my car/backpack just in case.

I'm a big fan of Nitecore. I have had many of their keychain lights: Tube (x2), Tip and Tini. This is my least favorite of the three. Don't get me wrong, it IS tiny and extremely bright, but it just doesn't feel like the other two. I think this has everything to do with the buttons. They're tiny and slippery, not the grippy and responsive rubber buttons on the Tip and Tube. I also prefer the Tip's casing. It just feels more solid. Just thought I'd share my thoughts here

As a flashlight newbie, is this a decent one? I'd like a flashlight that's small-ish, rechargeable (18650 or somesuch would be great, possibly with onboard charging) and that won't cost me a ridiculous amount of money.

AyynoDecent? Yes. Matches your criteria? No. This Drop is for a matchbook sized flashlight that although bright, has a relatively short runtime. But you won't use this light for search and rescue, working under your car, or backpacking at night. This light is perfect for checking the seat pocket on a plane, lighting up a darkened sidewalk, looking for something that fell on the floor in a theater... Before it gets dim, top it off with a quick charge via a micro-USB cable (included, I think). Should last 2 years or more before you have to send it in to get the battery replaced. (I think these are all steel cases, but there are copper (as in Cu) and colored aluminum-cased versions. Steel will wear longer, but since the one I have is the (shiny) chrome-plated model, I can say the chrome will come off in high-wear areas after a year or so. Still, it's more durable than the aluminum versions.) An 18650 light is much larger. An 18650 is a great cell: long runtime, very mature technology (thanks to laptops and e-cars), a variety of price points. But it's not for keychain lights... Tons of great sources online for lights (and headlamps) CandlePowerForums, BudgetLightForums, etc. Half the fun of purchasing a fancy LED light is the research--good luck!
