DOBTruckersMe too. The BLF-Q8 is a lot of light for the money.
I had a Nitecore TM26, and Q8 fills that role nicely.

RebuswindWhere do I get one, and what is a 'spring bypass'. Thank you, and happy Thanksgiving, if you're celebrating it.

bigpappasmurfbanggood...you can find discount code from budget light forum. spring by pass...means you bypass the spring...spring is made from steel and coated with gold or brass, however, due to the length of it, the resistant is high. use a wire to by pass the spring will increase the output. the BLF is built by and for flash light nerds. it was built ready to be bypassed.

easy and neat, they left holes for the bypass.
RebuswindBrilliant - you still get the physical robustness of the springs without their associated resistance. So why didn't they just wire bypass it themselves ? Are there downsides to doing that, so they wanted to leave the option to the user ?

EverythingIsBetterOutdoorsit is a labor required job...if they do this on every light...it will give the light much more price.
RebuswindFair enough, they know what price points they want to hit, and I'm guessing most of the folks buying these are electronics geeks who can do the upgrade themselves quite easily (as you demonstrated).

EverythingIsBetterOutdoorsYes,,,It is called BLF (Budget Light Forum) so...most people are focus on the "Budget" part...the price is a big attraction for people...I got the Q8 around 40 USD....5000 lumen to start with and ..6000+ lumen after bypass...great lumen/dollar radio. Also the most important part is the UI ...it is step-less ramping...you can not get that anywhere under 100 dollars....
Rebuswindstepless ramping meaning you can dim to whatever level you want, instead of 'hi, medium, low" ? I do definitely appreciate that. I've never had a flashlight or headlight who's preset levels were perfect for what I wanted to do (other than highest level of course). And 5k lumen for 40 USD is ridiculous ... I need one of these flashlights in my life. I recently discovered the new wave of high tech flashlights and they are unbelievably good... I still have a drawer full of halogen MiniMags collecting dust and we start using cheap (like 7 USD hardware) led flashlights thinking they were good, but it's just unbelievable how far flashlights have come.

EverythingIsBetterOutdoorsBLF and Candle power forum are great place to go to find new light. The ramping is not just go up, also when you go down, and you can stop at any brightness. there is a new light coming out soon on BLF, it is a thrower, called BLF GT. This light is more expensive than Q8, but it will have over ONE MILLION candela.... the prototype was tested bright up a 1.5 miles mark with no effort .... It will be also ramping UI...you should totally check it out...the first 1500 are already on its way...there are second order going on right now....you can still join in before the end of this year. You are so right...I remember the day when rechargeable flashlight are as big as my forearm and can only last 30 mins with one bright level as bright as 60 lumen..... Now..My Olight s1r put out 900 lumen, with multi mode and timer functions... and it is as small as my thumb... the LED flashlight game has indeed went far.
RebuswindHoly cow - a MILLION candela ? So if I understand correctly one candela means illuminating a full square foot at a distance of one foot away, which is also one lumen. And broad daylight at is hits the earth is about 15,000 lumen, cloudy days maybe 1,000 lumens so this would be many X more broad daylight ? In a handheld flashlight that doesn't require you to drag a marine battery around with you ? Wow, just unbelievable. Absolutely amazing. So why are all A19 bulbs still so dim and expensive ? That's really a rhetorical question.

EverythingIsBetterOutdoorscandela is density of light, lumen is how bright the light is... on candela is in a given direction, of a source that emits monochromatic radiation of frequency 540×1012 hertz and that has a radiant intensity in that direction of 1/683 watt per steradian. it is different with Lumen...which is candela * sr( square radian ).
break it down...it is basically like this.. Lumen is how bright the light can put out candela is how far this brightness can carry on. High lumen≠High candela
The GT is a large light, but it is still using 18650 batteries... It is larger than most light for sure but it is still a hand hold light.
